46k for a used jeep? The group buy in Texas isn't far off from that price and you get a brand new jeep with close to zero miles on it.

Agreed. I had a March 2013 build very close to that VIN.
(there is a reason why I wrote that in past tense). There are some members that have had great luck with their early builds. I was not one of them.

Look for a tad later build or buy new if u can.

Re: Anybody Near Pineville, NC?

That's why I posted my write-up online instead of a PM, you're gonna get much needed feedback.

Early builds; From "Christmas tree lights" to "quadra lift- overheating". It seemed that early Jeeps had problems ( lot-o-info on this site). But just like Jim in PA said most problems have been addressed. Now-a-days you're likely to read about "it takes 4 clicks to open my lift gate". Something I don't concern myself with
.
My Aug'13 build has had very slight problems.

As far as the scent: It's not a smoke smell, but I wondered what it was. I was initially thinking it might be a moisture issue. If you left your sunroof open during a rain storm a month ago, and now the summer heat warms up the cabin...that kind of scent. I also initially thought the headliner had various colors in it ( due to moisture and possible mold), but I realized that it's the felt/ leather look. Wipe it one way, it's gonna look different then wiping it the other direction. So maybe its the CarMax spray sent

If I were looking to buy this Jeep, the scent would not be at the top of my list of why NOT to buy it. I would be concerned more about the mechanical stuff of the early builds.

The scuff marks. We all have them ( if you have a dark interior) and I haven't gotten around to wiping them out, or even trying. But I'm sure a black-out product would work ok. ( there's a thread on that too).

I have a '14 Limited from the DC group buy, that's the extent of my pricing knowledge. I have no idea what other models go for retail, texas group buy, etc and what good deals are out there.

Al

p.s. If you "make" me go out and test drive it and try out the V8 and then sometime in the future I trade my V6 in for a V8...you can talk to my wife when you come out to Charlotte. ( but 100% happy with the V6)

Carmax? Then you need to ask how many miles are on the vehicle. With very minor exceptions, Carmax only sells pre-owned vehicles. And if it's on a lot and a March 2013 build, that would have been a very fast trade/sell. The question would be, "why?"

It has 19,000 miles on it. Here is the Carmax link.

Re: Anybody Near Pineville, NC?

That price is right around what I paid for my MY12 brand new (only 1% off invoice via affiliate--pre-group buy), BadTA. And you could get close to that on a brand new one, too, with the group buys. 19K miles is "up there" for a vehicle that is only just over a year old and you have to wonder why a top-of-line trim was traded/sold off so quickly. Given it's an early MY14 build, if you do opt to buy, it may be a good idea to also purchase a Mopar MaxCare extended service contract. (Plenty of threads about that here)

That said, it's a very comfortable and full-featured vehicle. I've very much enjoyed my MY12 Summit and would opt for another Summit the next time around.

Re: Anybody Near Pineville, NC?

Well crap. Now I've been reading up on the diesels.

It seems like there is not a single review that is short of awesome. So many decisions.

At least if I go diesel, I pretty much have to go new. Not many used ones out there. In order to save some money though, I will likely step down to an Overland. The diesel Summit is just getting up there. Wanting to stay under $50k.

The diesels have their issues as well. There are plenty of threads out here on that subject.

Hmm. I just don't see it anywhere.

The Owners Review thread has nothing but glowing reviews.

Re: Anybody Near Pineville, NC?

I was looking at getting the diesel, but opted not to and just went with the 3.6L V6. I wasn't looking at the diesel for towing, but the gas mileage as it would get better gas mileage than my car commuting to and from work. Also the range is pretty nice for road trips. But I am more than happy with the 3.6L so far.

As for the CarMax price, it seems to me that you could probably do better on a group buy and get a brand new one for a similar price once everything is all figured out.
