Re: Anyone concerned people will confuse their gorgeous WK2 with the 2014 Cherokee?

That's my concern. I fear as ugly as this is, people will get the names confused and this could potentially tarnish the brand name for the Grand Cherokee.

Re: Anyone concerned people will confuse their gorgeous WK2 with the 2014 Cherokee?

Before they retired the Cherokee name, which was before I had any interest in Jeep, I thought the Grand was just a fancier version of the Cherokee. It was only after having to write damage estimates that I saw the light.

As far as anyone confusing my GC with anything else, it makes no difference to me. I bought it for me, to take me where I want to go. If it does that, I'm happy.

There are obviously more important things in life other than to worry about what someone thinks about my vehicles. Who cares.

Based on reading the 2014+ threads in JG, several auto sites and the Jeep Facebook page just a minute ago two things are clearly evident:
1. People are confused between the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. Several think the 2014 Cherokee is the 2014 Grand Cherokee.
2. No one seems to like the styling and the comments are rather crude.

It's too bad because there seems to be a lot of great technology and the interior seems light years ahead of the last Liberty rental I drove.

So:
1. Is this the Jeep's Aztek?
2. Will it do the Jeep brand in like the Aztek did for Pontiac?
3. Are you concerned people will think of the ugly Cherokee when you tell them you are the proud owner of a Grand Cherokee?
4. Will it hurt Grand Cherokee sales and residual values.

Given the public outcry, I'm thinking answer to all is a solid "yes". Hope I'm wrong, but the voice of faithful Jeep owners and hopeful potential buyers says Jeep screwed up with the styling of the Cherokee.
Given that even current Jeep owners don't get the difference between the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, I really don't know how the average non car person gets the difference between both cars. I hope the newest of the ugly cars everyone will remember does not take the Grand Cherokee down in the process.
Personally, I think you should run for Congress. Who else reaches conclusions before a product is actually released? Who else reaches conclusions based on knee-jerk reactions? Who else reaches conclusions before waiting for market results?

And, because I'm foolish enough to actually click on these kind of posts, I guess that makes me a typical voter.

Re: Anyone concerned people will confuse their gorgeous WK2 with the 2014 Cherokee?

I think its easy for a non-jeep owner to call it a grand cherokee, when it's really just a cherokee.
I agree with what the jeep brand is trying to do, and I will reserve final judgement when I see one in person, I've already voiced my opinion of the fugly rear-end (ugliest of the entire Jeep/Chrysler/RAM/Fiat lineup IMO), whereas I'm fine with the front-end.
I just find the Cherokee fuel economy totally unacceptable, 30mpg should be the minimum city economy and 40mpg should be minimum highway economy to win in the category they are fighting in. New stricter fuel consumption laws come in 2016, why not at least try and achieve them now, that is what other manufacturers are doing.

Re: Anyone concerned people will confuse their gorgeous WK2 with the 2014 Cherokee?

Interesting you bring this up. Usually this is how my conversation with average parking lot bystanders go:

Random guy: Hey is that the new Jeep?
Me: Yes.
Random guy: Jeep Liberty right? The new Liberty?
Me: Yes... (Continue to lock the vehicle and walk away).

I don't like people that lack common sense. I usually get the urge to treat them "special".

I think all SUV's look the same these days.

I, however, am much better looking than other drivers.

Re: Anyone concerned people will confuse their gorgeous WK2 with the 2014 Cherokee?

People always did have a hard time with this. I can remember when the grand cherokee first came out people that were buying them were calling it a Cherokee. It is very simple to understand I don't why people have such a hard time with it. In a way I am glad they brought the Cherokee name back for the new vehicle but it would be nice if people would understand the difference. I think the looks of the new Jeep will grow on people and it might even do well. I think you need to look at what they need to compete against in the market and then it makes sense going in this direction. I really didn't think they were going to roll out an XJ that gets 17 mpg and call it the new cherokee. As far as it looking like the aztec I think that is way off base. The aztec I though was ugly but in my opinion it was just one ugly car that GM put out.

LOL Treat them special... I like it when there is a Mercedes Jerk is in his new GL and says "Thats the Cherokee right?" Leaving off the Grand drives me nuts for some reason... so I simply say back "That's a 2010 GLK right"...

How dare you down play their over priced snob cart? You're right, there's certain pleasure in bruising someone's ego with an over priced vehicle.

The irony here is off the charts.
