You, my friend, are in for a rough life if you're doing the whole WW2 thing. Might want to also add german and italian products to avoid too, no? Or does your twisted logic only apply to japanese cars (and you have no problems buying japanese electronics?)

Didn't the british do something to your ancestors a few (hundred) years ago too? Better not buy their products too, just to be safe. Or maybe your ancestors weren't american and they were living in Europe.... so... better not buy anything then, because surely some country somewhere did some evil to your ancestors.

It's not crazy when you lose family directly to the Pearl Harbor attack. I am Italian by the way.

Re: Anyone consider the new 2014 Toyota Highlander?

For the amount of money that a new Highlander (with high end trim and such) costs, if your at the dealer that day, I'd just check out a 2014 Tundra Crew Max with the 5.7 I-Force. Very comfortable. Tons of power. Really crappy gas mileage. Pain to park. Similar money. Then at that point, the new Ram is very comparable, better fuel mileage, power is just as good, little easier to park, can be a little more expensive do to deals on the Tundra, but once Chrysler kicks in some deals on the Ram, similar costs. At which point, now you are asking yourself do you want to stay with an SUV or a crew cab truck since the higher end models of each (to me) seem to all fall in the same price points. I have not driven any of the new Fords or GM's yet. Personally, when it comes to full size SUV's, I'm most impressed with a brand new Overland 3.6 Pentastar with the 8 speed. Stock, it comes with everything a person could want, all for around 45-47K, depending on the dealer you go to.

Where do you think the money goes when you buy a Chrysler? LOL. 100% owned by Fiat...an Italian company.

Sorry for your loss...but the attack on pearl harbor was over 70 years ago. I doubt you were even alive. Your parents may not have even been alive. Your objection reminds me of an old episode of Mad Men where Roger blows up a meeting with Honda because of Pearl Harbor. His resentment was ridiculous in 1966 and its absolutely preposterous in 2014...at least he existed in 1941.

If it makes you feel better...remember that about 2,500 Americans were killed at Pearl Harbor. A terrible thing for sure. But...remember that we retaliated by dropping the bomb not once...but twice. The blasts from those bombs killed over 225,000 Japanese....and that does not include deaths many years afterwards due to radiation, etc. They got theirs.

Us Americans have killed plenty around the world ourselves in the name of "protecting our interests" and acting on poor intelligence, ask the Iraqis. Best not to throw stones.

Pearl Harbor...may as well refuse to buy anything english because of the war of 1812 lol

Those vehicles are just entirely different vehicles, nobody considering a 3 row crossover SUV is going to cross shop pickup trucks

Doesn't matter that Italy was with Germany and Japan in WWII.

Thank you for reminding me of this scene and relating it to this.

Seriously though, what a hard way to go through life DarkKn1ght. Pretty sure the U.S. paid back the Japanese worse than any other war offenders, affecting millions of innocent people. "That's all I have to say about that."

My thoughts exactly. Maybe this guy didn't read my original post that this vehicle will be for my wife. I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't want anything to do with a extended cab dodge ram LOL...nor do I for that matter.
As some of you guys said I to am upset that a $40,000 vehicle where in the high end version has things like adaptive cruise and all those gadgets, but has no HID's. Pretty disappointing especially when manufacturers are now working on LED headlights. The limited Highlander does however have auto high beams and from what guys said in those forums work very nicely like they do on the Jeep.

And Toyota has LEDs on the Corolla! Why no HIDs on the loaded Highlander? Oh well...

I just clicked on his profile...he's 25 LOL. So...nobody his parents even knew was killed at Pearl Harbor...perhaps not even anybody his grandparents even knew.

I know for a fact I have family members who were killed in the Civil War. Do I refuse to buy anything made in the south? No.

Re: Anyone consider the new 2014 Toyota Highlander?

My great grandfather and great aunt were in the war. My great aunt only died recently. My great grandfather died a few years back. We were a neutral country at the time they attacked us. They brought us into the war and they deserved the ass kicking we gave them. I won't buy cars from them as long as other countries produce cars. I only buy Japanese made products if I can only get that product from them.

Then your great grandfather survived pearl harbor if he only died a few years ago! Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII...pretty much everybody did.

If you think we were a neutral country when Japan attacked us you need to go back to history class. We were not fighting in the war, but Japan was trying to expand and we were the last impediment keeping them from continuing that expansion. There was a lot of tension there that went back 10-20 years, and there was no question as to who's side we were on when it came to the war.

We had recently moved a lot of ordinance to Hawaii as a show of force to deter the Japanese from continuing to try and expand through the region. We froze all our oil exports to Japan (amongst other things) that year, there was a LOT of rhetoric from FDR about the US being willing to take steps to neutralize Japan's attempts at further expansion. Without our oil exports...and without that expansion into other oil rich areas they were really backed into a corner. The Japanese felt like they were taking preemptive action to neutralize our fleet in the south pacific to protect their interests from our interference. Sound familiar? What do you think we would have done had we realized the ordinance Japan had built up to pull off this attack? Think we might have attacked first? I think we might have.

There are always two sides to these things...the US was certainly not sitting in Hawaii drinking out of coconuts when the Japanese attacked.

In any event...WWII worked out for us. It established us as the world's lone superpower, it was HUGE for our economy. It created the climate of prosperity that your grandparents and parents grew up in. Why do you think no other power has ever attempted to attack us at home? Because they saw what we did to Japan after pearl harbor.

But...all of that is beside the point...the point is...life goes on. Its 70 years later...your closest connection to this is 3 generations behind you...continuing to hold animosities like this makes no sense.

Re: Anyone consider the new 2014 Toyota Highlander?

[QUOTE=JTS97Z28;1018973]My thoughts exactly. Maybe this guy didn't read my original post that this vehicle will be for my wife. I'm pretty sure my wife doesn't want anything to do with a extended cab dodge ram LOL...nor do I for that matter.

I read it. It did not state just how many your family is growing, only that the Accord is getting "tight". Last time I checked, the Accord seats five, unless you can get a bench seat up front, then maybe six. So if your growing, then maybe you need to seat at least six? I dunno, wasn't stated. The Crew Cab trucks seat six, possible four across in the back as most are just massive now, for a total of seven. But, it would get tight up front. Anyways, I was just unsure as to way then you would need the third row, as really the only third rows that seem to have any useful room for those not real small in statue are the full size vehicles like the Durango or a Minivan. Then you, or in this case, the wife are back to sailing "boats" down the highway. Probably doesn't make any sense to folks, but I am the guy that cross shops these vehicles, because they are sometimes roughly the same money, so I figure "What the heck, might as well just compare if they are on the same lot". Highlander is pretty darn nice, but they seem kinda high for what you get, in my opinion.

Now I'll think I'll go add the title I have been "bestowed" with on this thread to my sig
