Really? That sucks to know if it is the case. My last 2 Nissan's were push button start. The key fob has a removable physical key to lock the glovebox and the I just hand the valet (or parking garage attendant) my fob, less physical key. They can start the car with the fob but not open the glove.

I don't have a 2014 yet, still waiting for May 7th, however the 2014 manual indicates that valet mode works exactly as what you described for your nissan. From the manual:
Quote:
The emergency key is also for locking the glove box. You
can keep the emergency key with you when valet parking.
To remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latch
on the back of the Key Fob sideways with your thumb
and then pull the key out with your other hand.

Good to know - I'm in the same boat as you as a future MY14 owner

You lock the glove compartment and take the metal key out of the fob with you. Hand the valet the fob and off you go. In regards to the trunk it's accessible from the interior anyways.

You can do the same thing on the Jeep, theres no "valet mode" though.

As for valets, I am VERY particular about where I will valet. I never valet at a mall, or in one of those urban garages, but I'm okay valeting at a high end restaurant or country club though.

I would avoid if I can. However, I have no choice whenever going in to NY City with the wife and 15 month old son as it is the easiest way to get around - like the NY Auto show! Fortunately, come September or later, when I get my JGC, my son would be more mobile that we can take the train in and use the NY Metro system. PLUS, NYC garage charges a premium with SUVs!

It is good to know that we can lock the glove for valet/garage parking.

You can purchase the key fob online and or dealer then make an appointment with jeep service department and they will program it for you. I think the fob is like 100 bucks and to program it is another 250. Yes it is very expensive.

You cant just program it yourself if you have the original two fobs like you could in previous years?

Re: Anyone else hate the new '14 key fobs?

You can't program the smart key yourself, different than the old keyless remotes.
