Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

I would love to put a sunroof wind deflector on my jeep but am concerned about clearance issue with the pop up fabric screen. Does anyone have one on theirs? And if you like it, what is the brand/model number?

The standard sunroof screen made of fabric does an excellent job of keeping any turbulence out. No idea if the gargantuan sunroof has one. Why add another?

It does, and the few times I've opened the sunroof it worked well.

Agree...the fabric pop-up does its job well. I found that out when the service department inadvertently forgot to reinstall it after getting the pano serviced...

Does not appear to be a readily available deflector for the '14.
Dunno if due to lack of interest or that the built in one kills the market.
The fabric deflector does a pretty good job of keeping bugs out, although at the cost of needing occasional debugging.

There is some buffeting as speed picks up, but trivially stifled by cracking one or two windows.

Re: Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

Yea, I just crack the back two windows for the buffeting which is a common issue with many vehicles. (It's also a problem if someone...like my older daughter who is so dis-regulated...opens a rear window when all the others are closed. And not limited to JGC) I had my pano open today during my lunch-time errands and enjoyed the air. (but not the sun on my, um...bare...forehead...)

Re: Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

I have the "Benevento" deflector on my 2013 G/C. It has the same pop up factory fabric thing as the 2014 but does not cause any issues with the unit. I will say though if you don't "crack open" the rear windows you will get the helicopter sound. I had the same one on my 2006 Chrysler 300 and I was able to fully open the roof with no noise.

Re: Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

It's the aerodynamics of the body shape that cause the chopper sound. On my last car, it sounded like the chopper was in the back seat and my ears could feel the concussion.

If I crack the driver window 2 inches or more I get a loud cracking sound like a rifle report. Putting my hand along the upper door edge eliminates it. I've been thinking those window 'awning' type of things would probably eliminate, but I don't care for the look of them. Do not get it with the Thule mounted.

Thanks for the input everyone. I was looking to help with wind chopper noise and really don't like the idea of wiping bug innards off the fabric one, I would rather have a true washable deflector.

Re: Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

From the user manual;

"Wind Buffeting
Wind buffeting can be described as the perception of
pressure on the ears or a helicopter-type sound in the
ears. Your vehicle may exhibit wind buffeting with the
windows down, or the sunroof (if equipped) in certain
open or partially open positions. This is a normal occurrence
and can be minimized. If the buffeting occurs with
the rear windows open, open the front and rear windows
together to minimize the buffeting. If the buffeting occurs
with the sunroof open, adjust the sunroof opening to minimize
the buffeting or open any window."

I also get the buffeting with only the driver side window open; cracking the driver side rear window eliminates it. There is also another thread that suggests closing a fully open sunroof about 2 inches and the buffeting will be gone with no need to open any windows.. Will have to give that a try.

Re: Anyone have a sunroof wind deflector on their 14?

Besides grabbing bugs, I think the fabric wind deflector makes more noise than other solid deflectors i've had in previous vehicles.

There is a constant whoosh/hissing on the highway with the fabric deflector. A plastic deflector might help this a little bit.
