Anyone have to add fluids to a new vehicle?

Quick question. I have been checking my oil level every week or so since I've heard the hemi likes to consume it. Everything seems good so far at 5k. I changed the oil at 1k and will probably do it every 5k or so. Anyway, I noticed the coolant level is low. It's a few inches above the lower mark. I called the dealer and the coolant they sell is not premixed. Do I really need to mix it 50/50 with water to top it off? I've never purchased coolant from a dealer that wasn't premixed. Kind of odd. Anyone else have to add coolant or other fluids within the first few months? Everything else looks good.

I added a small amount of coolant to my WK2 SRT8. It started getting to the low add mark on the coolant overflow tank. I had a pre mixed gallon jug of Mopar coolant in the garage already. It's possible that there is some air in the system from the factory fill and it'll work itself out with mileage.

The radiator likes to suck it in and spit it out, depends on how hot the motor is.. kinda wierd but that is how it works, so the level will change from time to time.

Yeah, I understand that. This is after the vehicle has cooled for a few hours. I've checked it the last few days and it's the same.

Re: Anyone have to add fluids to a new vehicle?

I watched my fluids for the first month after buying my WK2 new. The coolant in my overflow tank slowly went down. It stayed at a consistent level once it was down. After I filled it up again it's stayed consistent. Again, it's like if you service any part of the coolant system. Air gets in there and eventually it works its way out to the overflow tank. I think that is was happened with mine. After adding coolant it's been good for many months.

I would say that air gets in the coolant system during factory fill and it just works it way out causing it to get low in the overflow tank.

Re: Anyone have to add fluids to a new vehicle?

Hi, I have the same problem after 6 months (around 12 or 13k miles) I noticed that the enigine was getting hot at stop lights. So I had the deal look for a leak and add more coolant to get it to the correct mark. It has been 9 months and im about a inch low on the overflow tank again. Does this cadence soud like air or should i be concerned with a larger problem?

You will just have to keep an eye on it for a while to know. I have a 1999 Dodge Intrepid that I have had to add a little adout every 9 months since new. Dealer never found a leak it. I had it check twice at 2 different dealers. The good news, it has almost 250,00 miles and it still runs great.
