Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

If so, how do you get them in? Will any funnel go into the "Capless Fill System"? Or do you have to screw around getting the funnel out of the spare tire compartment every time you want to add something to the tank besides gas?

I've used fuel injector cleaner religiously in my 1991 Ford F-150 since it was new, and never have had an issue with injectors in 24 years and 150,000 miles. I buy the cheap injector cleaner at the Dollar Store. All the stuff consists of is basically alcohol anyway. With my new Grand Cherokee you can't simply add anything without it becoming a Federal case.

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

I haven't used fuel injector cleaner in about 20 years. I tried it a few times, and never noticed a difference. I'm certainly not missing it, since I haven't had a fuel injector problem ever in over .5 million miles of driving.

Does daily WOT keep the fuel injectors clean? Because that is what I have been doing.

Read your owners manual. It advises against the use of any additive or "cleaners"

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

I personally do not use any additives. I think they are all just a gimmick. Like 2014wk2 said the manual actually states not to use any additives.
I bet the injectors in that 1991 F150 would work the same even if you didn't use any additives throughout the life of the vehicle....and there would be a little more money in the bank account too :-)

No, but don't let that spoil your fun.

You can buy funnels that fit the crapless fuel system.
Will stay completely out of the discussion of the worthlessness of aftermarket fuel injector cleaners.

I add a can of Seafoam when it's on sale, makes me feel good.

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

I used Seafoam in my older vehicles with great results. Good brands of gas usually have detergent in them so you really shouldn't need to add anything.

If the owners manual doesn't recommend using additives them I'd stay away from them.

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

Well, I poured in 9oz of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant into a half full tank of my 2013 V8 yesterday. Then filled it up with Shell 93 octane. I bought it used a few months ago. It now has 52k on the odometer. This is one additive that has no ether in it. Ether can attack some parts used in the fuel system.

Have only put less than a hundred miles on it since then so no results yet.

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

I throw a couple of cans of Techron in once a year. I was having a problem with an out of warranty Chevy. The service manager at the dealership put it on the computer and suggested it. He sent me to Wal-Mart to buy it instead of trying to sell me something and didn't charge me for his time, so I figured he was being honest.

I doubt that Techron will do any harm as it is an ingredient in Chevron gasoline.

Re: Anyone Here Use Fuel Additives ?

Cut the bottom out of an additive bottle and use it as a funnel. I've used Techron to clean off the intake valves from deposits from todays fuel.
