Anyone Use A Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carrier?

Looking for input from those that have one. Especially if you have the Q-Lift suspension. I only plan on one dirt bike that weighs about 270 pounds wet. I know that this is well below the rated tongue weight limit but just want to see what ya'll think regarding handling, and if you have interference between the lift gate and handlebars. Below is what I am looking at getting. I just hate to drag around a 7x14 race trailer for one dirty bike. Thanks folks!

I use one on my 2005 JGC. No problems at all. My bike weighs about the same. Handlebars won't touch the rear window. I added some lights from Harbour Freight to my carrier since the bike blocks the ones of the Jeep.

I'm glad this topic came up. I was just about to order a moto-tote. Looks like the versa hauler is a better way to go.

Re: Anyone Use A Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carrier?

How heavy is the carrier? How hard is it to mount to the hitch and maneuver around the garage when you store it?

I use the AMC-400 which is rated up to 400lbs and weighs just 36.5lbs, so it's easy to move around in the garage and very easy to put on and off.

Good to know! A friend of mine uses a Harbor Freight carrier on his F150 and it is reeeeally close to his tail gate. That could just be HF for you. Speaking of the HF carrier, we added lights to his. drilled 3/4" holes and popped these guys in and wired it to a 4 pin trailer connector.

What do you like better about the Versahaul? Now that you brought it up, I started looking into the 'Tote

Re: Anyone Use A Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carrier?

Here is a post from awhile back. The bike - Kawasaki Super Sherpa (KL250) is 275 lbs.

Towing thread

Hope the link works - look for post #69.

I added lights from Harbor Freight. So far it's worked very nicely, but I had to order a hitch lock/stabilizer to make sure it didn't rock too much.

I have a Moto-Tote sports model and have used it to carry a Kawasaki Ninja 250 and a Ducati Monster. Had no trouble with clearance with either bike. Can open the flipper glass with the ninja but not the monster. I ordered it with taillights and indicators (amber required here) and added a number plate and light. I'll try to find some photos.

The quadralift is brilliant. I lower the park mode to load up so I'm not pushing it so much of an angle, then raise it again afterwards. Levels the car out perfectly and I don't even know the bike is back there. Have done a 1000km round trip at about 140km/hr on a not particularly smooth road and had no troubles.

I guess I spoke too soon. I liked the Versahauler's ability to hook up a trailer to the end and the ability to adjust the location of carrier. After thinking about it, you probably wouldn't want to add any extra weight by hooking up a trailer. Oh, and I thought the retractable tie down arms are kind of cool. I'm not sure those additional features are worth the extra $150 over the Moto-tote.

The SMC 600R by Rage Powersports also looks pretty decent considering the price.
