Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

Thinking of trying it out for a trip next week. Not expecting much with Sprint 3G (seriously...3G).

I unfortunately have a sprint iPhone and never get 4g and the 3G bites.

Hoping the kids can stream Netflix in car, but is Suspect it will finish downloading when we arrive after 11 hrs on the road.

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

If you already have Sprint 3G, why not make your phone a hotspot?

The pricing seems a little out there considering most phones are more capable these days.

It would use my family data plan, which if u r streaming video for a few hours could be an issue.

I believe you can call them and get it increased for a month... at least they used to let you. Has to be cheaper than $30.

The in car wifi is next to useless. Poor reception and over priced.

You can get retail wifi spots for your car. Got mine from my old Citroen. Just need a smartcard with 4g to run like home lan

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

I've used the $9.99 1 day pass a few times so the kids could use their Kindles and iPads during road trips. Having it built into the Jeep/Nav is cool in concept but 3G is dang slow - and the Sprint coverage where I was driving (Sierra Foothills) was bad enough that it was falling back to 1G or no coverage at all which seriously degraded the usefulness. I ended getting a new 4G iPhone in Sept, so now we just use the personal hotspot feature on ATT iOS. That means I need to keep my phone plugged in to keep the battery from getting drained but doubt I will use the built-in Wifi again...

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

I am not sure why you would ever use the built-in wifi if you have a phone with 4G and a hotspot (most phones have it or will by the time the next car comes around). If there was a way to tie it to existing service of your choice for a nominal fee then maybe more would go for it. Sprint in my area is terrible anyway...

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

I use it all the time lol.. We have iPads with no data so I can only use it on wifi.. Paid for the month.. I'm mostly in nyc so I get 3G steady but it's still 3G lol. iPads run smooth on games movies or videos you have to let buffer bc the internet speed is wack.. But for small games it's cool.. I got optimum hot spots free with my cable and that shit sucks..1million hotspots and only 6 of them in range.. I only get internet next to projects.. Even when I'm home optimum sucks unless I'm on my own network lol.. So there goes my 2 cents..

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

I used the 1 month option in September when I went on a three week trip out west so my wife could access her work computer via VPN while we were driving. It was slow, but it worked fine along the expressways. Not so well though off the beaten path.

Re: Anyone use the uConnect wifi yet?

This is good info. I have a wk trip coming up in a few weeks and have been debating if i should use the built in wifi or my mobile hotspot. I currently have 10gb of data in my mobile plan and i believe any additional 1gb is 10 or 15 more.

I don't think ive ever gone over the 10gb but am wondering if i use it on my trip and go over will it be beneficial to do so over the built in wifi?

After reading the thread i think i would rather my own hotspot.

Right I guess it comes down to where your going ( reception) and who is your main provider.. At the end of the day a mobile hotspot with the right company is the way to go.. Your not limited to just your car and your truly mobile internet.. Sprint sucks in ny so I hope they got there main customer base somewhere else... Not trying to offend those sprint users but it's true.. ( but hey sprint has the best prices and customer service.) im with Verizon and there expensive as hell. I've been grandfathered in to unlimited data and don't have a hotspot due to my unlimited data. That sucks
