JD, if you dislike Jeeps so much then why are you here? The people here have already made up their minds and you and/or CR is not going to change them. I am curious, what is it that you drive? Why do you care so much what we like or drive? Honestly, I couldn't care less what CR says as I do my own research and make up my own mine. I don't decide what to buy based on one magazine who does their research among a very narrow field of subscribers. Kind of like the preacher preaching to the choir.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

Disappointing that there is such a negative review by CR. My 2011 has been just GREAT and so was the GC before that (absolutely flawless for 6 years), the GC before that was great too, and the GC before that was great too and the first GC I had in 1993 was great but did have some issues that were all addressed under warranty (new radio, retractable antenna replaced, new passenger automatic door lock mechanism, blown speaker(s), a brake issue recall or TSB and maybe one more) but that was when vehicles were not as reliable overall and the GC was an all new launch. Fast forward 20.5 years....

I do understand the early 2014's had a few more issues than it should have had....perhaps it was launched a bit earlier than it should have. Water under the bridge now. I did wait for a "2014.5" to order my #6 GC (yesterday) and am fully confident the QC is up to par.

The CR negative report does take a bit of wind out of any Jeep enthusiast's sails...but not much though. Would have been nice for CR to acknowledge our satisfaction with the GC.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

I would imagine that as Toyota and Honda sales slide due to the effects of a week dollar causing decontenting/lowering quality, that CR and some of the other Ricer Fan Boys will get more and more shrill!

FWIW I have a Summit I bought in the 1st week in October that was built in the middle/latter half of August and now has over 6k miles on it. Essentially problem free with the exception of a 8.4an problem that may have been induced by the dealer applying a new flash (weird things afterwards and it worked error free before) - that led to the factory shipping out a new 8.4an and taking mine back for an autopsy.. Had a rental for the 4 days (including a weekend) that took... I'm more than happy with mine. My 2001 GC Limited has been almost problem free with the exception of power window lifts around 100k and a power steering pump circus that I am sure was off-shore parts. My daughters 2014 Cherokee with about 4k on it has been totally problem free....
So my experiences don't track with the Phan Bouys!

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

CR has a very interesting subscriber demographics. Their subscribers do not in any way resemble the general US population. BMW back in early 90's used to get dinged for lack of cup holders in reliability etc. Not sure how cup holders make a vehicle more reliable but BMW soon gave in and included cup holders on US spec BMWs. As a result BMW began its descent from the Ultimate Driving Machine to just another luxo barge and M3s were never the same. I always liked R&Ts surveys of vehicles because it gave a more detailed look at the problems areas and fit in best with my biases. I use CR as another source to consider and dont put a lot faith in any of their recommendations.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

I don't have a Cat anymore (passed due to old age) so I have no need for litter box lining - ergo no CR subscription...

I have a vision of the typical CR subscriber wearing Birkenstocks and long hair

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

CR is, honestly, the last place I would turn to for reliable and informative information on any vehicle purchase. But, that's just me . . . I prefer the automotive rags, web-based info, and the experiences of actual owners.

As for my personal experience, I have put just over 53,000 miles on my Overland V8 in 24 months of ownership. It's been excellent in every respect, but I did suffer a brake booster malfunction that required replacement at just over 51,000 miles. I have an extended warranty, so the total cost of repair was $100. Apart from that, the only problem I've encountered was a sunroof that was whistling and required adjustment just after delivery.

I know mine is just one person's experience, but my Jeep GC ownership experience has been great. I wouldn't have the slightest hesitation in recommending a Jeep to a close friend. In fact, I've done so on more than one occasion.

I have to give my 2014 limited with 5000 miles, bought 10/13, a solid red circle. Perfect so far.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

I don't know if CR is biased or not. My only suggestion is that if you want to debate what they are saying, you need to actually read what they say in full rather than what others decide to pick and choose to promote.

I'm not suggesting everybody read CR, as personally I don't read it or care about it. But I bought one issue years ago. After they were instrumental in having the Suzuki Samurai disappear after their tests had some tip, the general media was reporting that CR was reporting the same results with the Bronco II. These reports gave Ford a push to replace the Bronco II which was a good seller.

I drove a Bronco II at the time ... put 170,000 miles on it ... so I was interested in the test results. In actuality what was reported in CR was that one of their drivers said that the vehicle felt like it had a tendency to tip, but they were unable to get any wheel to leave the ground.

In that case the damage was done by the broad based, incorrect, reporting of the mass media. Can you imagine what it would have been like if we had the internet back then?

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

In the 4/14 annual auto issue regarding the JGC - Consumer Reports draws a very distinct difference between their subjective opinion and objective facts. Subjectively they are positive about the vehicle. Objectively they can't recommend it due to negative data received from OWNERS.

Jeep rates "worst" among all brands due to OWNER response from CR's email/on-line subscriber surveys. JGC receives the dreaded big black dot for the same reason. It's just math!

1.1 million vehicles were rated by CR's subscribers.

It's not a Commie plot!

Are you affiliated with CR in any way?

Thanks. You defend/promote so much I thought maybe you were part of the sales staff.

By the same token there are Jeep owners who will defend/promote Jeep no matter what.

The difference is, and I could be wrong, I doubt that Jeep owners that don't own copies of CR go to their forums to point out faults with the magazine.

So, I am curious if you actually have an interest in Jeep, or are you just having fun being an 'activist?
