2015 JGC is one of six vehicles my wife and I are considering for a September purchase. Currently own Volvo XC60. Contenders are:
1) Jeep Grand Cherokee (Limited - loaded)
2) Volvo XC60
3) Audi Q5
4) Lexus RX350
5) Acura RDX
6) Nissan Murano

I think you have shown your hand when the other contenders are all foreign. When I go to buy a vehicle, foreign vehicles are not even on my radar. And don't give me the bit that some of those are built down south in the USA. They are built by non union labor and the profit goes back to the mother country. I don't even read the reviews of foreign vehicles. I am not interested in them, nor would I ever buy/own one. I would be ashamed to live in Michigan/USA and have a foreign vehicle in my driveway. I sure do love my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited II. So far it has been perfect in spite of CR's review. Sorry to hear about theirs.

We bought a loaded 2014 Limited JGC in Nov 2013 after a shopping process which included numbers 1, 3, 4 and 5 in your list above, plus the BMW X3 and Acura MDX. For many reasons, I am glad we settled on the Jeep. We are only 3+ months and 4K miles into ownership so far, but the Jeep has been flawless and we are in love with it. This Jeep replaced a 1997 JGC by the way, that was still going strong and reliably at 182K miles. We just wanted something new.

We would have gone Acura if we'd not decided on the Jeep.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

I won't lie, I've had some issues with my Jeep and don't like how Chrysler has handled the whole Uconnect not having the promised features until nearly a year after the launch of the vehicle, but it's far from the worse vehicle and brand I've ever bought. I understand how CR is setup, but my issue is perception drives a ton of peoples feelings and if someone already has in their mind a brand/vehicle has problems by word of mouth, then they will be more critical about every minor issue whereas on a brand that is praised for reliability and quality will have these same issues overlooked or brushed aside.

I traded an '11 MDX for the Jeep because it was time to get back to surf fishing. The MDX was a good vehicle, but I did have as many service visits the first year as I have had with the Jeep. And, the Jeep already has the amount of miles I had on the Acura when I traded it.

So, from my experience so far the Jeep is on an even keel with the MDX ... both good vehicles. If the MDX was off road capable I would have kept it a little longer.

Now, based on your statement above, your opinion, my opinion and CR's opinion don't amount to a hill of beans. There is only one opinion that counts;

"... one of six vehicles my wife and I are considering ... "

Good luck with whatever she decides.

I think Autoweek said it best... the problems with CR's quality ratings is that they make no distinction between the motor falling out and the touchscreen picks up fingerprints too easily.

Their ratings DO serve a purpose, In My Non Humble Opinion, in that they keep a certain class of buyer from buying Jeeps.

It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

Folks... we have removed a bunch or posts from this thread that were mean, rude or just plain off topic. It's not cool to insult other members, call names and derail discussions with off topic rants. If you have a problem with another member settle it in the alley. If you see a problem post please use the report post button to report it to the site team but do not take matters into your own hands.

Thanks.

Wouldn't bother me if you removed the whole thread. I don't know why I keep coming back to it except that it's human nature to stare at train wrecks.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

I'm not surprised at the recent rating.
I have one of the earliest builds on this site. I still have almost every issue with my 14 that has been talked about on these pages. It's 13 months old and has 20k on the clock and still has the issues. Plus today my check engine light came on. It's been to three dealers and honestly i feel the dealers are stumped.
I love the vehicle though. So much that I might be trading it in on a 14 Summit. I got a great deal from a dealer and I thinking about it over the weekend. I realized it not Jeep. It was the early release of the 14. Should have worked out the bugs first.
I have to think hard this weekend about going with another 14.Especially with the 50k price.
