April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue:
1) Jeep is rated worst brand - out of 23.
2) "Though the Grand Cherokee is a great performer, it's unreliable."
3) New car reliability prediction: Big, black dot (worst possible rating).

I am a bit shocked Jeep as a brand has such a poor rating, not sure how the Cherokee is doing but other models should be out long enough to have most bugs worked out.

As to the GC Disappointing to say the least but not shocking given the issues with Transmission shifting and some of the electronic bugs of the pre 2014.5 builds. Hopefully with the latest software updates and RRT most of those have been corrected. Now as to any issues because of assembly/shipping hopefully FCA is working on ways to correct that.

In case you haven't noticed, JDShaw only shows up on this site to post CR findings every couple of months, argue how CR is unbiased and definitive word in everything, that Jeep is complete garbage, and contributes nothing else to the community. A real value around here.

.... and here we go again into another 200 response thread arguing about CR, Jeep, etc.

Consumer Reports is just toilet paper in booklet form. I normally buy what ever vehicle CR rates worst and it never has failed to turn out to be an excellent vehicle. I kept my last vehicle that CR rated worst for 15 years without a major problem. I never have bought a rice burner nor will I ever buy a rice burner anyway and that is what CR promotes.

The 2014 Cherokee Limited II that I ordered was delivered in November. I now have just over 1,000 miles on it. So far it has been perfect in every way. I don't know what Cherokee CR tested because mine has none of the issues they mentioned. I left the Jeep Cherokee Club forum because all the people over there did was look for problems to the point they were imagining them. Everyday they were posting imagined problems and it drove me crazy. Why don't you go over there? I think you would be happier and fit right in. As for me I am very happy with my Jeep. It is on a 39 month lease and at this point I intend to get another one when my lease is up.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

Based upon Consumer Reports, I bought a 1986 Toyota 4Runner with the 4 cylinder, standard tranny, and later a 1995 Toyota 4Runner with the 6 cylinder, auto. Both were excellent offroad, but both were underpowered. The 6 cylinder got abysmal mileage (my 2004 Tahoe did much better with the big V8). Both started seriously using oil at about 75,000 miles. While I liked them as offroad vehicles, I had them in the shop more than I ever had my 78 Bronco, my 91 Explorer, my 97 Explorer or my 04 Tahoe. So far, I have no complaints about the Jeep.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

Yep, my 2011 wk2 with 100,000 miles on it has been such a burden *scarcasm*. Total value of parts (warranty parts and labor included) doesn't even go over $400.00!

As far as I'm concerned, I take CR's babble with a grain of salt and most of what any other type of "consumer" agencies claim. For every good, there is a bad....and vice versa regardless if you are talking about motor vehicles or toilet cleaners.

Re: April, 2014 Consumer Reports - Annual Auto Issue

Yep, I bought a brand new CR top-rated 2007 Honda Accord V6 only to have the auto trans bite the dust at just 42K miles. I might buy CR's top rated toothbrush, but take their auto expertise with a grain of salt. They trashed my other two vehicles in previous reviews as being "unreliable" and "dangerously overpowered" and both have been completely trouble free.
