I'm pretty sure everyone knows that.

The question was whether the top speed was a physical limitation or an artificial electronic limitation.

All I was saying, even without a limiter, it's a 4800 lb. vehicle with a high stance being pulled by a V6. There aren't many roads in my area where I could get it up to 140, regardless of whether it could actually get there. Even if I did, it would be very unsafe, even with the right tires.

This is no race car.

There are places where you get really long, flat stretches with no curves. The Northeast contains very few of them. That also doesn't take into account our crappy, salt eaten roads.

Which leads to the next point: a 140MPH speedometer on this particular vehicle is purely vanity with no real world purpose. As a result, I wish I could change it to something more reasonable so it would be easier to read.

That reminds me of the late 80's when all cars had 85 MPH speedometers!

Back then, we had the abomination known as the "Dodge Aries". Even my mother hated that car.

The name Aries (The Ram) actually fit it in the end...it was rammed by some guy on a nasty winter day and was junked like it deserved to be.

The K-Car in "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" was downright luxurious compared to the POS we had.

I have little consideration for the top speed of any car, regardless of whether it I a 911 turbo or a Corolla. I would choose every time based on handling, braking and acceleration over either top speed or outright horsepower.

My 1991 Ford F-150 has an 85 MPH speedometer. And 55 has a red line above it.

Well My 2015 WK2 is powered by a HEMI V8.
And while it's not a "sports car', the body, frame, transmission, and most of the electronics are the same as the WK2 SRT, which can do 165 MPH.

Re: Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

Let's be honest here. I highly doubt ANY Jeep Grand Cherokee, SRT or otherwise, could ever break 200 MPH. It's difficult enough for engineers to get the most aerodynamic sports cars to achieve that speed. Most that do produce well over 600 HP in order to do it.

Now factor in a 2-1/2 ton SUV, along with far less aerodynamic capabilities, and the amount of raw horsepower it would require is all but unobtainable. Let alone in any kind of factory produced form. High top speeds quickly become a law of diminishing returns in regards to horsepower. That escalates to even greater proportions when you factor in vehicles like SUV's that are unsuited aerodynamically.

Re: Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

In my case I dont know if it has a limitation, top speed for me has been 202 kmh = 128 mph, that is according to my Garmin GPS, that was only one time as I wanted to check exactly what was asked here and that is if there was a speed limit restriction installed.

200kmh=128mph is more than enough for me, so if the limitation applies at higher speeds I guees I will never find out, I dont think a JGC is for racing at those speeds, what I did was just a one time test.

LOL... only difference is that 6.4L beast, right? I mean my 3.0 EcoDiesel has all the same things in common with the SRT that your hemi does... and a few maseratis! Take that!
