Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

Do the 2015 Grand Cherokee's have electronic speed limiters on them? Mine is too new to find out. But I was wondering if they'll run for all they're worth, or if they have an electronic governor on them?

Car & Driver tested a V-6 and said the top speed was 121 MPH. I don't know if that was a true top speed, or limited? I was wondering what the 5.7 HEMI V-8 will do flat out? Have any of you ran yours flat out? If so what did you get out of it?

Interesting. I'd say that's limited. I'm guessing drag limit isn't far beyond that though

I've done 105 when I wasn't paying attention, but 121 is light years beyond there at that point.

Re: Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

I'm not sure there's a road long enough to get my V6 up to the 140 my speedo goes up to, even without a limiter.

Even if I did, I can't imagine how unstable it would be at that speed.

Maybe if it were lowered...

Re: Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

My recollection is that US vehicles are (possibly by law) speed-limited based on the rating of the tires.

Correct! The Latitudes have a "T" speed rating which limits them to 118 MPH.

Re: Are 2015 Grand Cherokee's Electronically Speed Limited?

The speed ratings are usually below the tire rating. For example, my 2010 Dakota is limited to 112 MPH. I am assuming the Jeep is somewhere around that as well.

They know people are going to try to push it, so they typically try to play it on the safe side/conservative side.

You would think they would simply offer higher rated tires to suit the engines capabilities. Otherwise, what's the point?

Car and Driver tested the JGC hemi and stated:

Top speed (governor limited): 121 mph

That's not too bad. Better at least than the 105 MPH this 5.7 HEMI Ram pickup recorded. You can see how quick it gets to 105 MPH, then just dies in it's tracks. And if I'm not mistaken the HEMI in the Ram pickup pulls 395 HP, compared to the Jeep's 360 HP.

And yes, that is due to the Speed Limiter. If modified, the top speed of the HEMI is somewhere north of 140 MPH (or... so I've been told ).

Certain Tuners allow for the modification of the top speed.

Does that shoot your warranty right in the head?

Stock I hit the limiter at 117-118. Now DCX1000 with custom hemitune I have hit 143. I wish I had my gopro that day. All I have is a picture from one other time I stretched her legs on clear open road.
