Arrrrgghhh...I can't decide

I'm in no REAL rush to buy, but kind of looking for something new. I currently have a 99 4Runner which has been bulletproof and is of course paid off. But as I'm driving a tad more I want something a little nicer and comfy. I'm having trouble deciding on a 13 Trailhawk (finding one used) or just going with a 14 V6 Laredo E loaded to the gills. Reason for the Laredo is I want cloth seats. And the nice thing about the TH is leather/suede seats. The new Altitude is nice, but doesn't have all the options I want. I will be towing a little in the future, but nothing major. The ONLY thing that worries me is the transmission issues with the new V6. I don't want a Hemi or the Diesel as my commute does warrant the cost increase. And the good thing about this Laredo...I could essentially build my own TH....or Trail Warrior, minus the diesel. So I'm really not sure which way to go. 13 TH when one comes up. Or 14 Laredo E. Hmmmmm. Thoughts? Opinions?

I would get a 14 Laredo hands down. The 8 speed transmission is well worth it in addition to the other updates.

Ditto.

Maybe I missed it, but have you driven both a '13 and a '14? The v6 with the 5 speed is a complete dog compared to the v6 with the 8 speed. The difference is more than night and day.

The only issues with the transmission have been some hard shifting problems, which were solved with a SW update. It's designed by ZF, I have no doubts it'll hold up for a long, long time.

Are you keeping it well past 100k miles? That's what the 100k powertrain warranty is for...to ease your mind.

Re: Arrrrgghhh...I can't decide

Transmission is great now. Just a few bumps that we are now past.

You said you want cloth seats but comment the TH has nice leather?

Leather is "Tougher" than cloth seats.

My lunch pale knocked over on the passenger seat. Which had unfinished soup.

It spilled onto the seat. If that had been cloth or perforated leather. My truck would have smelled like soup for years.

With leather it was wipe wipe and just like new in a few minutes.

I used to always want cloth too. Until I owned leather and will never go back to cloth.

I'm also confused, you stated you wanted cloth seats, but the TH has nice leather seats?

You'll find out real quick that once you build a "loaded" Laredo, it's going to be the same, if not more than a Limited, and the Limited will be nicer, and it will have more features.

How true.
Creeping feature buying is a disease.
And the cure?

A Summit or SRT of course...

Re: Arrrrgghhh...I can't decide

I couldnt agree more with everyone about the '14 and its 8-speed. Awesome! I have a '14 Altitude, and anything I could get from a Laredo E, I can get to add on or buy aftermarket for my Altitude. However, i have the leather/suede seats, the 20" black rims, the body color fenders (which i believe come starting on the Overlands), etc....

I was all about getting a used one until I started looking at all the updates on the 14. I'm glad I went with the 14 now for multiple reasons.

Re: Arrrrgghhh...I can't decide

I think he likes the seats in the TH because they are more like cloth with leather trim. While they call it "suede" in the literature it's obviously fake, but it feels very comfortable and durable. I do agree with the other comments about leather being much easier to clean and maintain, especially with wet spills. I've never driven the eight speed so I can't compare it with the five speed. I just drove it through the mountains of Colorado and it didn't feel at all like a dog to me. Maybe if I drove it back to back with a 2014 I would feel differently.
