Yep....

The LR4 can also be lifted 2" ... something I haven't seen on a Grand Cherokee with air bags.

OP ... I bought a new 2005 Power Wagon with all that articulation. Unfortunately I couldn't get anyone shorter than 5'6" into the cab. Imagine my 90 year old grandmother climbing into that thing. It also drove like a 4x4 truck with a live axle.. brand new it pulled to the right - ownership was short lived.

Want articulation... my XJ has a 5.25" RE Superflex suspension.

Yeah, it's not easy getting people loaded into it. I have PowerBoard retractable steps which help a lot. My wife is 5'4" and she can get in easily now. The 4th gens seem ride a lot better than the 3rd gens, they have some new gel infused body mounts or whatever. It's still a truck, but it's not bad. Mine doesn't pull at all. One of the first things I did was replace the track bar with a Carli adjustable bar, seemed to help a lot to stiffen up the front end. Gas mileage still sucks though. I had some 34.5" Nitto Trail Grapplers on it for a while and it killed what little highway performance I had, those tires were HEAVY! Couldn't hold 70 MPH up hills and was barely pulling double digit highway gas mileage. Went back to a 33" Toyo ATII and it's much more drivable now. I don't offroad it much, it's more of my do whatever, whenever truck. The winch is nice to have, I've used it a couple times around the house pulling out trees, recovered my ATV that was buried in the mud, and even recovered myself once. It also tows great with the 4.56 gears.

Having said all that, it's still not a good family vehicle with a baby on the way, and neither is my SRT8 Charger; hence the reason for the Jeep. I'm actually looking forward to having a vehicle that gets good gas mileage like the Hemi Jeep.

And then there's lack of articulation. (Sorry, I know it's a jeep forum)

Re: Articulation?

I offroad my Jeep. It has a front end independent suspension. But honestly, I really don't care as long as the Jeep can do what it is supposed to do.

Piece of cake for my Liberty. Walked right through it like it wasn't even there.

Re: Articulation?

Articulation is over rated in vehicles with more modern 4WD systems, often it hurts you (e.g. when you don't want to roll off a side slope). Decades ago it was more important when you didn't have BTC and didn't always want to deal with lockers. Just one of those things that carry on from the days of the dinosaurs.... or those that still use their dinosaurs for fun Of course there are those rare situations when it helps to have all four wheels trying to grab traction.

That's what I'd probably say too if I didn't know any better. Articulation has alot to do with vehicle stability, more so than traction in most circumstances. When on an off camber trail, trying to climb a set of large rocks, and you lift a tire, causing the vehicle to tilt to the opposite side, gain a rolling moment in the process, a rollover is much more likely, than if all four tires were firmly planted. Proper use of sway bars and shock valving prevents a solid axle vehicle from tilting severely in off camber situations. The electronic systems that keep an IFS/IRS 4x4 moving when lifting a tire, are just a way to make up for the short comings of the independent suspension when off road. Nothing wrong with that. The two systems are designed for two totally different purposes. HArdly a dinosaur. Land Rover, a huge user of independent suspensions, still uses solid axles in the Defender, it's best off road vehicle, not because it's old, but because it works the best. Same goes for the Wrangler.

An independent suspension Jeep most likely could not do this, because it would be teetering on it's wheels, and be in a very unsafe situation.

Yep! I had a YJ back in the 90's. Lockers were a must to go anywhere.
My most recent Wrangler was "Lo-J" (Long Orange Jeep) so, one more piece of Jeep porn:
