I had to detail my own new car for the first two weekends I owned it....Clay, polish and wax, tires were 7 lbs low, clean and dress tires, clean engine bay... You name it and I had to do it to make my $45K vehicle look like a new car. I have received much better care for every other new car I've ever bought...eight of them in all.
I didn't expect white glove treatment, but this was crap.
My experience also with 2 Jeeps (out of 13 new vehicle) from two different dealers. When I brought my '07 home my neighbor came over and wanted to look under the hood. He lifted the hood and said, "I thought you were buying a new car".
The GC had dirt (soil) in the cargo area
, and scuff marks on every interior door panel. When I pointed this out to the salesman he said, "We need better lights in the prep area".
Even with the problems I've had (7 dealer visits so far) I think the Jeep is pretty solid. The only mechanical issue is the wheel bearing that I'm waiting for. But the dealer network in general seems to lack the ability to really make the customer feel like they really matter. It isn't really something that would cost anything, just a change in attitude.
The service department I'm dealing with is not bad. The shop I bought from used a robo-call to say thanks for buying from us.
BTW - I didn't receive a calendar ... just a payment book.
