New jeeps have a lot of problems? According to JD Powers the new Jeep in on par with the Toyota 4runner for being problem free.

The owners I know seem pretty happy. I think the Q7 is nice, but it just can't handle a serious off road issue or deep snow. The GC matches it in luxury (I had more room in the GC) and beats it off-road.
Yours is the only report of shaking and vibrating that I've heard. Perhaps you should test drive again?

Re: Audi Q7 vs. GC Overland V8

I remember when the new Q7 came out and I sais wow that's one good looking SUV, but over time it started to get old looking and more like a large crossover to me? I'm an Audi fan too, had an Audi TT QC in 2003 and upgraded to BMW's now

Re: Audi Q7 vs. GC Overland V8

Wife has a Q5 2.0T and she loves it (I like it too) - averages around 27mpg. I recently took it in for its first scheduled service and was given a Q7 TDI as a loaner. I'm sorry, but that thing was a turtle!! I was very disappointed with the acceleration. I too liked the looks of the Q7 when it first came out, but compared to the Q5, the Q7 look more mini-vanny to me.

Sounds like off-roading and/ or snow capability is your biggest concern - definitely would go the GC route for that. Unless you take a Q7 and throw some knobbies on it!

Re: Audi Q7 vs. GC Overland V8

BTW, according to JD Power, the 2011 GC has better predicted reliability than the Q7.

So much for that.

No I didn't. I do like to watch those, though. I think they're hilarious. I just hope no one has a camera if I get into a pickle off-road. So far no pickels (must not be trying hard enough).

But, I will say that there are "fail" vids for every car/truck/suv out there. Most of the time, it's driver error. SUV "fails" most certainly is the driver not understanding the equipment/technology. I would think that's the case on a demonstration drive.

To say the JGC matches the Q7 in luxury is a big stretch. The GC has come a long way and is the best GC ever, but it's simply no match in luxury and build-quality to the Audis. From the equipment levels, switchgear resistance, headliner fabric, wood/metal/ plastic quality and integration, window seals, etc., it just can't compare. The Q7 never pretends to be an off-roader, it's simply a luxury SUV.

For the price, though, the GC a terrific buy. It's good-looking, solid and parts will be plentiful. Plus, it's a great off-roader. It's the best thing to happen to Jeep in a long time. 128K GCs sold in 2011 says something.

If you truly want to go off-road, get a car with a transfer case, ignore everything else, including the Q7. If you just like the idea of off-road capability, most cross-overs will handle more than you can throw at them.

Good luck!

I can't agree on this one. We drove a Q7 after the Overland. The legroom and seating on the Overland was better. I thought placement of the switchgear was better executed as well. Yes, some of the controls felt a bit more upscale in the Audi, but frankly there was nothing superior in the look of the Q7. There were some things we liked, some we didn't. On the road the Q7 did not handle better nor was it quieter. Then, whenever you accelerate the Q7 made quite a bit more noise and this seriously detracted from the upscale feeling. Perhaps it was not so much the volume of the engine as it was the sensation that it struggled. With it's 200 + it also felt more ponderous at low speed. If I was going to sum it up...the GC just feels tighter. The Q7 has some refinements....such as the tranny, but it's also had more time to evolve. This new GC is essentially a whole new SUV with an old name.
My main "likes" for the Q7 would be that it exhibited less body roll and had a bit better feedback at the wheel on the highway. We also like the 3rd row. Other than that my wife and I agreed it was a wash so far as "luxury" was involved. Whether you consider the Q7 a bit nicer or not they are certainly in the same ballpark. And then when you add the Jeep's excellent off road/snow, Hemi, QL and so on...The Q7 looks more like a poor couisin than a purpose built luxury SUV. We liked it, but were shocked that the GC held it's own and more.
Even the Audi salesman was impressed by the new GC and his best point was that the Q7 needed the diesel option to compete. At that price point I'd start looking at the Toyota Landcruiser again!

This is an apples and oranges comparison IMO.
