Auto Door Locks?

I have read the owners manual, and I've fiddled with the various settings screens in uConnect.

But I still have questions:

With the Auto door locks and the proximity key....

Is there a setting somewhere for the vehicle to automatically LOCK itself if you (or the key fob) walks away?

I know that if the vehicle is ALREADY locked...anyone with the fob can walk-up and place their hand on the handle and it will unlock automatically.

I know that if it is unlocked, anyone with the fob can push the button on the exterior to lock the vehicle.

But what I dint know is that if you get out of the vehicle (obviously its unlocked at that point) and walk away....can/will the vehicle lock itself? Or do you have to push the button on the handle (or the fob) to lock it?

I only ask because my wife's '11 vette locks itself if you are more than 20' away, and unlock when you get back within 20'. And the JGC seems SOOOOO much more advanced that the vette, I assumed it was similarly possible.

Thoughts?

Re: Auto Door Locks?

There is no setting for it to lock by itself.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

I think auto door locks feature just refers to having the option for it to either lock all doors automatically when its either placed in drive, or if the vehicle reaches like 10mph. Like already mentioned you have to either lock it yourself using the keyfob or one of the buttons on the door handles. Most newer cars are the same way with some small exceptions.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

This is one feature I really wish they would add a menu option for.

It drives me nuts to have to manually lock the doors on a vehicle with a proximity key, especially coming from a vehicle that had an alarm system that locked the doors automatically.

Further, instead of warning me the fob has left the vehicle and annoying everyone still in the car, just don't allow the vehicle to be shifted out of park unless the fob returns or I type in my U-Connect pin to override the lack of a fob. At the very least, disable the warning chime if the weight sensors detect other occupants in the car or only chime like that if the vehicle is put in gear.

The fob warning really bugs me because it only started doing that with the last update. When I first got the Jeep, it didn't chime continuously. It just chimed and displayed a message in the EVIC when you opened the door, then bonged once when you would put it into gear.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

This...as with so many other "features" would be easily accomplished through simple software updates that FCA could use as additional revenue generators (programmers cost money...gotta recoup that cost).

Would I pay $20 here and there for a software update that did something cool.....yup. Should it be free....yup. Is it more likely to happen if the company can at least break-even on cost...plus add another check-mark for customer satisfaction with updates (see Tesla)...yup.

In any event...yeah...the system can easily accomplish the task of proximity lock and unlock....it already does it SEMI-automatically. It would be even awesomER if there was an option for the driver to select if they wanted it to happen FULL-automatically.

Again...nothing to snivel about. Pushing the little button is not gonna break my back. Having to accept the responsibility of remembering to do it myself is the real pain. lol

Heck....Im starting to get into this whole mindset of not wanting the responsibility for turning on my own wipers....activating my own hi-beams....etc. Those only require a flick of a finger. What was FCA thinking when they decided to make me have to raise my hand all the way up almost to waste-level AND EXTEND A FINGER to press a button!!! WTF? Is FCA some secret cover-identity for the Goulag or something?>?

j/k feeling kinda sarcastic and playful this morning. hahahaha

Happy New Years, all.

V.

PS....Oh yeah....what is the point of the vehicle constantly chiming if the fob is away? Its essentially just saying "Driver isnt here" over and over.....just to piss off the passengers who (unless they are Hellen Keller) should KNOW THE DRIVER ISNT THERE.

Agreed! If I stop at a store & my wife wait in the car. I may run into the store, (fob in pocket) and return to an annoyed family that my car was beeping was the entire time....

Good Times!!!

Isn't there a way we can turn this off?? I also wish I could turn off the beeping seat belt reminder... (Even though I obviously need it )

Re: Auto Door Locks?

Silencing the seat belt chime is easy.

I did it in my wrangler and I believe I read that the same process works in the JGC.

- Put the ignition in accessory mode
- click and unclick your seatbelt 5-times.
- turn the ignition off.

Should silence the chime.

Thats how it works in the wrangler...if not the same process for the JGC, then you might wanna do a quick search.

I know its possible.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

It's not a seat belt chime, it's a 'FOB has left proximity of vihcle while I am running' chime.

After frustrating my family many times with that I realised that if I leave the driver's door slightly ajar when I dash off the alarm never happens - it only occurs if I close the door fully and walk out of range. Problem solved

That's a bit problematic in Northeast winter weather...

Plus, if the wind decides to grab the door, it could fling it into the one next to it.

Honestly, that chime should only occur for a few seconds when you actually open the door, then only happen when you attempt to put the vehicle in gear.

Of course, they wouldn't need the warning if you couldn't actually put the car in gear at all without the fob.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

Have a family member push the start/stop button to turn off the engine.

Problem solved.

That's probably the best solution available to us today. But, I agree with what others have said here about how it should chime just once or twice (or maybe 5x) and then stop.

Re: Auto Door Locks?

I was in my brother's Merc C300 today, and it chimed quietly for about 5 seconds and then was silent, when he ran into the store for a minute. Also, be glad the Jeep doesn't do like my Kia Sorento...a very loud 5 second long chime outside the vehicle when you close the door (like stepping out to get your mail). I use the trick of only closing the door to the first latch to keep it quiet.

I'm only assuming the Jeep doesn't chime outside, since nobody mentioned it. I don't know, as I actually haven't received mine yet...just ordered it a couple weeks ago.
