That's interesting. In the 16 months that we've had our Cherokee with this feature, it has never engaged (switched the engine off) when we've had the AC on.

I have to agree with others here at JeepGarage that a "permanent" OFF (button) would be nice; just like what the ParkSense and LaneSense functions have. However, it only takes a second to press the Stop/Start OFF button on start up, or just before I park. No big deal really.

I have just never been able to grasp the purpose of this feature on any vehicle--pretty sure it would drive me nuts and I would disable it. Really, how much gas could it possibly save? Or is there some other purpose I am overlooking?

GJB', even an incremental decrease in fuel consumption and an incremental increase in pollution reduction is significant when it's going toward fleet averages which is what the industry is measured on. For each of us individually, the ESS may have marginal impact on fuel consumption; more for folks who do mostly "city" start/stop driving and less for folks like me who are primarily highway drivers.

Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

Stop start should be installed on Air Force One and the presidential limo.

I have this on the X5, you stop the car and it shuts off, as soon as you hit the PARK button on the shifter it turns back on, you have no idea how ****en annoying this is. Luckily I can disable start-stop bullshit permanently.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

So in all of these Stop/Start System Threads and Discussions I continually see these four (4) consistent, and repetitive themes:

1. A lot of owners hate it (Stop/Start System),
2. Some love it,
3. A few have learn't to deal with it (press the OFF button upon start-up, or before parking), and
4. Here's hoping that future Jeep Stop/Start Systems will offer a Permanent Disable Button.

So can we move on and complain about something else now?

Does it really affect your life if people complain about feature on a board specifically tailored to this vehicle? Its not that serious.

It's a new feature on the 2016, so expect 18 more threads on it.

Discussion of the start/stop system will go on for a long time. It's new and somewhat problematic, I don't mind helping people with their questions when I can, and I am thankful when they help me.

would be nice if people used search before starting a new thread. this just makes more work for the mods to merge them.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

How much fuel can this possibly save in relation to wear and tear on the starter and solenoid?

Well lets see. I used it for 1 week, 7 miles round trip commute in the city with approximately 20 stop lights at 30 seconds at every other stop light. My average went up from 15.6 to 15.7MPG (probably due to a lighter foot), hearing the engine restart every few seconds made me cringe and disable the feature permanently. Unless the car pumps out huge amounts of toxic fumes while idling at each stop light then it probably causes more hurt than good in the long run due to the stress on the starter.
