Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

This is a real nice feature, however, its another example of Chrysler taking an idea and implementing it 75% of the way.

The reason I say this is because the feature is WAY too sensitive and activates at terrible times.

1. If you make a full stop at a stop sign, it will turn the car off and immediately turn it back on again.

2. If you are pulling into a parking spot and stop, look around to make sure you fit, the Start/Stop engages. Thats fine, however, you then put the gear selector into park and the car TURNS ON AGAIN only for you to turn it off once in park.

These 2 scenarios are absolutely ridiculous. They need to increase the time it takes for this to engage from its current 1 second delay to about 7-10.

My GF has a bmw X6 and somehow, the car knows you are parking or at a stop sign, because it never turns off. However at a red light, it will turn off in a second or two.

Man that would drive me nuts. Kinda glad my 2015 doesn't have that...atleast based on this description. I'm still curious about test driving one for the heck of it.

Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

Welcome to Jeep beta test program aka 2016 MY. Couple of flashes later and visits to dealer it will be all good. Well unless if they decide to swap some hardware then you are SOL. They did that with my 2014 to some people (me) and even late 2014 models got some new features like better adaptive cruise control that works at low speeds, auto lowering suspension at park and ability to turn off eco mode and let the choice stick to name the few.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

I had a 2016 Durango as a rental with the start/stop feature. TWICE the engine stalled out on me due to it. It was when I came to a stop and went to put the vehicle in reverse. The engine turned off then immediately kicked back on and delivered no power. I couldn't accelerate in reverse, just coast as if I was in neutral

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

I am with JTS on this,I am glad my '15 doesn't have this option,as Jim pointed out, there is a long thread on this somewhat annoying option, the theory is superb but in practice, from what I read(as noted I don't have this option),it's currently more annoying than a desirable option.I wonder if (Chrysler along with pretty much most manufacturers)with each model 1/2 year,it will be improved to the point it earns an automatic check in the box as a desired option.Am sure they are aware of problematic operation, just wondered why they would bring this option to market when,(as pointed out by another person on this thread) it doesn't function even closely as well as other manufacturers.
When looking in future, for a new JGC it is definitely something I would visit here and read about before purchase.Thats the beauty of this forum, all owners, some like me,for many years, who give honest real world answers/help/advice that isn't available otherwise, with no financial gain in any way, just genuine help.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

i'll say the same thing i said in the other thread - i don't have a problem with this feature. two months into my '16 and it bothers me not one bit. my only possible concern could be long-term effects on the starter, but there is no data on this and i have to assume that engineering didn't just throw this thing out there without testing (see the other thread on the chrome window trim). i know it's more popular to bitch online, but it's pretty simple - it works, and there's a single button to disable if you don't like it. shrug.

i'll also add that my wife has had her CR-Z for five years now and hasn't had one issue with this feature.

as you were.

It doesn't bother you that your car turns off while you park and are in "drive" only to turn on again as you out the car into park?

Or how about at stop signs? If you fully stop, the car turns off. There is no way this saves fuel seeing as the car turns on 1 second later. This is undue stress.

This is an easy fix... Increase the time needed stopped for the feature to activate. Right now it's about 1 second. Change it to 7 or so.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

I am trying to get comfortable with the feature. I have been using it for a couple of weeks. If I had it to do over I would still buy a JGC, but I have to say I wish it did not have start/stop. Like others have said it is really bad at stop signs and other places where you just stop for a second. I don't mind it if it is at a long stop light, but the system doesn't know the difference. I think wear and tear on the engine (not just the starter)is going to cost more in energy than the few drops of gas it saves. Just my two cents worth.

Re: Auto Start/Stop- We need to talk about this

I think the worst part of the system is the effect it has on the ac unit. There was a notable raise in air temperature when the engine shut off. When it started back up there was a rush of cool air. Th engine being on plays a major factor in the ac and this start stop does not help
