Thumbs down Back up camera TSB

I brought my 2014 GC Limited to the dealership a couple weeks ago for a variety of TSB's that needed to be done. One of which was for the back up camera.

I have been on other posts talking about how if you dont need the TSB then you shouldnt get it done. The dealership in which I got it serviced made no mention of this and updated everything.

Now, whenever I shift into reverse my backup camera stutters. Its not a smooth image, it is a mixture of a smooth image and stuttering like there is a delay or something. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution?

What is your build date and trim level?
I have a hunch there may be more to it than just the software rev, as some folks aren't seeing this.

I don't know of any "backup camera" TSBs, just the UConnect updates, where presumably they would take you to 14.5.3

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2011-2016 Grand Cherokee Service Bulletins and Recalls

Seems dealers differ on installing TSBs, some seem to think they are precious resources not to be wasted on mere mortals unless that mortal utters specific incantations.

Other dealers will pretty much flash everything to latest firmware any time they flash one item, although some of those will allow you to include and exclude any particular TSB right on the service request. Unfortunately, many of the firmware revisions aren't visible to the customer--which is too bad, it would remove some of the rumors.

Speaking as a professional with over 50 years in the computer business, that latter tactic tends to work out better most of the time--with a few oopsies here and there to make most folks at least a tad wary about not waiting a tad as shiny new releases come out.

Re: Back up camera TSB

My camera also became jittery with the last few Uconnect updates.

I honestly don't even know what the ratio of jittery to non-jittery is, and if there are build ranges where this seems to happen on the last couple upgrades, some of which were supposed to fix it.

As we say in the computer biz, they do seem to be 'fixing the hell out of it'

Mine is 2014 Limited w/nav. My build date was 7/13. I hadnt really noticed any issues with stuttering or the rear view camera until after my last update. Maybe 3-4 weeks ago. I have no idea what they updated but Im pretty sure if there was a TSB, they updated it. Regardless of if there was an issue or not

Re: Back up camera TSB

Same problem here after I did the last update at home with a USB drive. The Jeep is at the dealership right now for a small laundry list of repair items, one of which is the camera issue. They said they'd re-do the update and see if it fixes the problem. Hoping to have the car back tomorrow and I'll update then.

Re: Back up camera TSB

Got my 12000Km service last week.
Second service and 2 nd flash, reverse camera has got worse, like its delayed.
Be good to find this out either its the flash update fimware or the actual camera.

Very unlikely that it is the camera. Mine got the jitters after one of the uConnect updates. I put the old version back in and the Jitters went away. The current version brought back the jitters, but not as bad.

I pretty much look at the screen before backing up and then use the mirrors. They never jitter.

Re: Back up camera TSB

My build date is February 2013ish. I now have the jitterbugs due to uconnect updates.

Basically, what bill_de said. The jitters are a software issue that seems to have been introduced with the December 2013 firmware version (13.48.3) and was slightly ameliorated in the current version (14.05.03)... but it is still there.

So, this is a good news/bad news deal.

Good news: this is caused by a brain damaged software bug, which means that theoretically they can fix it in the future with another uConnect firmware release you can download from the internet and install yourself.

Bad news: if you want it fixed right now, you need to roll back to a uConnect version from before December (a version before 13.48.3). The older versions have *other*, unrelated bugs that were fixed in subsequent revisions. So, pick your poison.
