Battery Charging

I have a charger that charges AGM batteries (battery maintainer). To put the jeep on the charger can I attach them to the battery remote posts under the hood or are those only work for battery jumps only and not for long term battery maintaining (chargers)?

Thanks for the info

Re: Battery Charging

It should be fine to charge from the remote terminals. Some chargers can even charge via a 12V outlet.

Re: Battery Charging

I often go 1-2wks without driving my WK2 and use the jump starting posts with one of my Battery Tender units and using the posts works fine.

BMWISTER does the battery tender have to be specific to the AGM batteries?

Re: Battery Charging

No, Battery tender charges all batteries including AGM. Just make sure when you get a charger/maintainer it says that it can be used with AGM batteries. My battery tender states that it works with AGM as well as flooded.

For what it's worth:

"CAUTION: Always disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable before charging a battery. Charge the battery directly at the battery terminals. Do not exceed 14.4 volts while charging a battery."

Re: Battery Charging

Sounds like a proviso put in to satisfy corporate lawyers, given that charging the lazy way obviously works (Bmwister post #3). If not, whoever concocted this convoluted procedure needs to be given a dunce's hat.

Ditto getting a friendly jump. Imagine struggling to unearth the secreted battery and removing battery cables at night in a parking lot.

Re: Battery Charging

Charged with battery maintainer utilizing the under hood battery posts and it worked like a charm.

Obvious Observation of The Day: Why would they put them there if they weren't meant to be used?

Many years ago I had a car that in the owners manual it emphatically stated never to jump start the vehicle, but to remove the battery and place it on a charger. It surely had to have been written under the direction of a trial attorney to limit the manufacturer from stupid people...the kind of stupid people that would sharpen the wrong end of a pencil but also the kind in whom a jury would find pity ($$$$) if their stupidity got them hurt.
