Re: Battery life

I have found that conventional lead acid batteries in new cars have lasted 5-6 years. Replacement lead acid batteries rarely pass the 3 year mark. I hope the AGM's replacements are not the same.

Re: Battery life

There are so many variables to battery life, I wouldn't rely on someone elses experience. I live in an area with harsh winter and hot summers. No heated garage, but low mileage. I swap out batteries every 4 years. I guess AGM should last longer, but I hate to be dead on the road, so I'll continue with that drill. It's all relative. A nice dinner for two in a good restaurant with a bottle of wine costs around $100 here. Two or three dinners every four years isn't a hardship, but dead on the road can be.

... so how difficult it is to get to that battery under the seat? Did anybody did the swap? Any tips?

Re: Battery life

Using a battery tender to trickle charge it can greatly increase battery life. We plug in our batteries every night and they are always topped off. Works wonders if you don't drive that often (4wheelers, tractors, second car...). Our batteries last 5 to 7 years this way with lots of cold winters and hot summers.

Re: Battery life

My friend has a 2011 JGC and the battery went dead in just over 5 years! I'll probably buy a new battery at 4 years (Oct 2018) I purchased one of these just in case and keep it under the seat.

I purchased the Norco GB-70 not the 40. Most of the reviews on Amazon are positive. I've used it twice (dead battery) not on Jeep on GF's car and it cranked right up. I'm not endorsing the product but just google the GB 70 and check out the videos. I think it was rated one of the best portable jump starters. Piece of mind for me especially that I work nights and some times in the middle of nowhere!

I have this 900-amp unit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Never used it on the Jeep but it brought my old V6 sedan back from the dead many times. Also holds a charge for a long time. Although I don't typically carry it in the Jeep, it was great piece of mind in my old car.

Re: Battery life

I have this jump starter.. It has an AGM battery in it and has enough reserve to do multiple starts without needing charging. What convinced me was the fact that many parking garages and airport parking lot had this one for daily use for patrons, so I know it has to be good. Also can save your butt with USB ports and a few plug ins during power outages... If you are only going to buy one... this is the one....

The battery in my 2014 diesel GC failed to start the car after it had been sitting in a cold garage in Minnesota (20's or so, not bitter cold) for 3 weeks. I think there's a lot of draw from the electronics on these things. I am having it replaced because, having lived in Minnesota for over 40 years, I usually replace them after 4 years anyway. I'm disappointed, but better safe than sorry. We are in fairly remote places with the car quite often, and I have read that a jump from your friendly neighbor won't always work to crank these diesels.
