Be honest, how bad is it?

1,300 miles on the odometer and I messed up.

Took my Jeep to the car wash I always go to. It has a real tight U turn right where the two lanes of customers converge. Took it too wide and scrapped up my wheel and a bit of the rim.

Im assuming I am going to need a new tire but would I also need a new rim? I did purchase the mopar tire and rim protection when I bought the vehicle. That should cover this, right?

Re: Be honest, how bad is it?

Do you have a discount tire in your area? If you do I would take it there and have them look at the tire to see if the damage is bad enough where it poses a safety risk. If you don't have a Dicount Tire any tire place should work. I just like the Discount Tire in my area b/c they will check things over and even make small repairs for no charge.

For the curb rash on the actual rim that should be able to be repaired. You should not need a new rim. When I bought my Jeep it was certified and had a much bigger scuff than that and they buffed it no problem. If you have wheel coverage I would think it would be covered but you never know with the fine print on those things.

Re: Be honest, how bad is it?

Curb rash is a pet peeve of mine so even though its not horrible, its enough that it would make me see nothing but that rash when I walk up to my car lol. Take advantage of that wheel/tire insurance you bought and get that fixed. That wheel will be repaired, and I assume they will replace the tire.

Re: Be honest, how bad is it?

You certainly don't need a new Rim.
Bring to dealer and ask them what your coverage will do with it.

I always scratch my head why people use automatic car washes on expensive newish cars.

Re: Be honest, how bad is it?

I just got off the phone with a local jeep dealer. They told me to bring it in next week so they can take a look at it. Hopefully it will fall under road hazard or some portion of the mopar rim/tire protection plan.

But youre absolutely right, its going to be the first thing I look at every time I walk to my car. Other people might not notice it but I will 100% see it everytime until I get it fixed. Hopefully it will be repaired by early next week

I live in an apartment, handwashing with a hose and soap isnt exactly an option here.

Had to do some digging but I was finally able to find the paperwork. What it comes down to is the wording of any incident affecting the wheel. The service manager I use is a great guy and im sure he will be able to steer me in the right direction.

On a side note, the mopar plan is kind of a giant scam. When I purchased it, the finance guy told me that there was no limit on the plan in terms of usage. This form is saying that the plan is only good for 4 wheels or 4 tires during the entire 6 year policy. Not eligible for 4 new each year, 4 total...for 6 years.

Re: Be honest, how bad is it?

4 tires and wheels in 6 years from road damage would be a lot. I think I have had one tire replaced from road damage in my life.

I go to the hand wash car wash in the winter when I don't feel like dragging out hoses in the winter and having ice on the driveway.

Most car washes around here have both.

Its 4 tires and 4 wheels, that translates into i can destroy a wheel/tire combo on a pot hole 4 seperate times during the 7 year policy, i hope im not that unlucky. I mainly bought it for the bent rim protection these 20s do bend easy. At $700 for a single rim only change the $310 for the policy was worth it to me.

It says right there it's not gonna cover scrapes. They will not cover that RIM. Unless the camera is not catching something you see more serious. You might be able to get the RIM repaired though.
