Re: Best new Sport Utility Vehicle over $40K

I totally agree with the choice of the JGC in the over 40k category, but as an impartial observer I wouldn't give too much credence to a company who awards the 2012 car of the year to the Kia Optima.

Beating out the X3 and ML Class. Cool!

Re: Best new Sport Utility Vehicle over $40K

They (and some other reviewers) have so many award categories that it's almost more shameful not to be awarded than exceptional to be awarded. That way they offend fewer manufacturers so they can be assured of getting loaners.

Still, they picked the right SUV. The WK2's only real weakness is its dealer/service network, but otherwise it's jaw dropping all that it does, and to such a high standard.

Their 2011 WK2/Canada review is at http://www.motoringtv.com/watch-moto...142552&yr=2011

Actually, Kia and Hyundai (two Korean car companies) have come a long, long way. I think, for the most part, they deserve to have car of the year. They offer a lot for the amount they're charging and a lot of the general public are very responsive to that.

Re: Best new Sport Utility Vehicle over $40K

It's not just about quantity...it's also about quality. They offer a long power train warranty but it's not the power train components that fail as much as everything else on the cars. They are targeted toward low income folks or college students or those who just finished college with a new job. Next time you are on the road, try to spot an eight to ten year old Hyundai.

It's not my intention to start a flame war or be insulting to anyone here who owns one of these brands, and I hope you ar happy with it. I just don't think they deserve awards. For those of you who do own one, let us know if you would buy another one.

Re: Best new Sport Utility Vehicle over $40K

I'm glad the WK2 won another award, but this category of over $40K is a pretty strange win. The base GC is well under $40k. So would that award then only be for the Overland and Summit/SRT8 packages?

Re: Best new Sport Utility Vehicle over $40K

I just read some of the other category winners......this must be for cars that were specifically at that show as I see they have the BMW X1 as the catagory winner for under 40K, and that SUV isn't out yet.

Spoken like someone who hasn't driven the Kia Optima!

The 274 HP turbo is a really nice car. I believe it's gotten pretty great reviews everywhere.

I think they made a great choice with the Jeep (especially if they are factoring price), but how do they possibly pick the C-class over the A6 for "Luxury Car"...not even close.

I'm sure they're all nice out of the box, but once again, how long do they last?
