Bike transport inside jeep

Is it possible to fit a bike upright inside the back of the GC on one of those fork mounts?

It depends on the type of bike and size of the bike. I would assume most adult full suspension bikes and hardtails wouldn't fit. I may be wrong though.

If you remove the seat post, the front tire and the rear tire it might fit if you lay it on its side - I tried that once and decided a KŁat bike rack was a better idea, but then again I've got a 23" full squish Trek Superfly 29er.

I fit two 21" frame Trek hard tail 29'er mountain bikes back there. I had to remove the seats/stems and the front wheels but I was able to fit both bikes in. I didn't have any kind of mount to hold them but they stayed upright and it worked out well.

Here's an old picture of my setup for a long road trip. The tire went through the center console to open up the most room.

Although I don't bike I always liked how the tow hitch racks look like.
No disassembly, use all 4 seats and trunk space.

Love the picture, great setup.

If I don't care about having the bike vertical, is there enough room to lay a road bike flat without pulling the front wheel/seat post? I'm thinking about shifting from a Highlander, but I've gotten very used to being able to quickly throw a complete bike in back.

Thanks much.

I know you're asking about doing so in a GC, but just in case your search includes a Durango, I'll tell you that this is possible and I have done it in my '14 Durango.

Re: Bike transport inside jeep

The day I bought my Specialized last I got it to fit 'ok' with the seat and wheels on.

I typically have 'stuff' and kid seats in my Jeep though so I use a hitch rack.

Re: Bike transport inside jeep

If you fold the seats down, or just fold down the wider half of the rear seat, you can lay a bike in the back with no disassembly. Still have room for a back passenger and a bit of luggage. Did it with my 56cm road bike yesterday and drove 2 coworkers to lunch comfortably.
