Re: Bimmer to WK2?

Interesting topic. Happy to see some bimmers here regardless you are turning away or not. Anyways, I keep my 09' 328i for my wife's car and bought my 11' Overland to replace the 08' CRV. The main cons of 328i is the crowded space, especially after we have our first baby. It is hard to fit in the strollers, shopping bags, groceries, etc in it. But it is a piece of cake for the WK2. So I take the WK2 on the longer trip (>2h round) more and more than the bimmer, though I do miss the precise handling of the bmw sometimes when I am driving the Jeep on the highway.

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

Not a Beemer but I did just sell my '08 Touareg V8 with 4 corner air for a new Overland. Had a Trailblazer SS and a Cayenne Turbo before the VW but based on the few miles I've put on various demo's I'm confident I'll really be liking the Overland. Best bang for the buck in the midsize SUV market right now IMHO.

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

Trading in my 6-series coupe for an Overland Summit on order. Don't think I'll miss it at all. I drove my sports car fast for the first two weeks I owned it and about once a month in the following three years. My WK2 will have more features, go more places, fit more people and gear and get there just as quick with the HEMI. I'm also looking forward to American reliability. I've owned Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes, and BMW. I find it BS that people believe foreign makes are better made than the American trucks I've owned. And in the event they do break down outside of warranty, I'd rather pay the bill for an American overhaul than a German tune-up.

Traded an '07 Lexus IS350 for my GC. I really liked the IS but I really like the GC.

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

Why not drive both? I do own G37 coupe and new JGC same time, both great cars for what they made. G gives me great coupe performance and 330hp with summer tires between April and October. Jeep brings me safety while winter with Blizzak’s and off road capabilities for my hobbies. I would never substitute fun of one car with another, only both cars will give me full levels of excitement in any weather and conditions!

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

I'm both a long-time bimmer person and long-time Jeep person. My current daily drivers are a 13-yr old JGC and a 23-yr old BMW M5. (You need two daily drivers when you have old cars!)

There are horses for courses. When I go on a "driving-oriented" trip, then it's the M5 which still stirs my soul. When I go on a backroad/offroad oriented trip, then it's the JGC, which goes places that other stock SUVs can only dream about.

I have no illusions though - once my new Overland arrives, it'll become the predominant daily driver and the M5 will be more of a garage queen. At 23 years old (and set up with an unforgiving suspension that is heaven on the track and hell on poorly maintained streets), the M5 just isn't that much fun in urban traffic. I know the Overland Summit will be much more comfy.

Technically speaking, we are going "Bimmer to W2k" as we are trading in my wife's old 2003 330Ci convertible on the Summit. (She's got a 128i convertible now - and we both adore that car.)

Once the Overland arrives, I'll sell the 98 JGC and we'll be back down to "two bimmers and a jeep"

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

I have a 2007 335i and was ready to pull the trigger on the WK2, but now we are expecting our third child and it looks like I'll need to go with the new Explorer or the Durango

I'll hold on to my 2008 WK for masny years to come and when I finally decide to part ways with it, I'll find myself in a WK2 then for sure (hopefully the SRT version )

Re: Bimmer to WK2?

allright.... In the past fewyears i've been on a roller coaster car ride... I went from a 2002 Lincoln LSe to a 2003 Range Rover into to a 2006 G35 Coupe. Then I missed my SUV so i bought a 2006 Range Rover Supercharged as well. I then traded in the G35 (when my then-fiance now-wife's 2006 Accord Coupe's lease expired) on a MBenz C-Class. still with me....

This past summer we traded in the '06 RR so she could have her mommy mobile - 2010 R350, I got her C-class. Traded the C-class in 3-months later (missed the funtionality of an SUV) and got the WK2 in November. I also had a loaner ML500 in thier as I was considering buying a new ML550.

My point after rambling... The JGC is amazing. Almost as quick as the S/C RR and just as nice as the inside of the Infiniti, each RR and all the Mercedes. And, it's half the cost of the RR and 1/3-less than its MB counterpart.

Do I miss rolling around in my 6-speed G35 on back country roads - hell yeah. But, I don't miss the inability to take people along with me or getting stranded in the snow.

The JGC has a few minor issues here and there (par for the course with a 1st year model) but nothing that makes me regret its purchase - just the dealerhsip I bought it from; hate those guys.

Bottom Line for me...
It's as luxurious as a Jeep can get and its as Jeep as a Jeep can get.

True and they are also twice as much. Sticker in my '06 topped 100k and the 2011s aren't any cheaper; just saying.
