So how do you deal with the insurance companies? did you just get your jeep replaced by a new one with no cost? or how does it work? Sorry I live overseas and wanted to know how you worked things out and if it cost you...

Re: Bittersweet day

sorry for the delay..
The insurance sends an adjuster to look at the vehicles if you have comprehensive insurance(flood, theft, fire, etc)
He/she then reports it to the insurance company, they call you with a figure and you agree or not.
If not you have to prove why.
You then have to send them a power of attorney, and the titles of the vehicles if you own them.
If you have a loan on the vehicles they pay off the loan and send you the remainder.
I owned the mustang and the bmw outright so they just sent me the checks for them after they received the titles.
The jeep was financed so they sent me the difference between the resale value and what I owed the finance company.

It took a lot of phone calls, sometimes 2 a day to keep the ball rolling and to make sure there was no errors on the insurance companies part; there was quite a few on their part.

That's all in a nutshell.

I think the cars from my area are being brought to Pine Brook out in Montville.
One of the drivers mentioned that to me.

Re: Bittersweet day

The scary part is many of the flooded cars from Sandy will make it to the used car market. I was looking at a truck a while back that was a pretty good deal. When I had a mechanic look it over before the purchase - he pointed out mud and grass behind the instrument cluster in the dash!
