Blackstone Oil Analysis Report on Factory Fill Oil 2014 Pentastar V6 with 6000 Miles

Note that the designated oil from the factory on the form is wrong, I spaced out when I filled it in. It's probably 5W-20 Organic oil. It had no impact on the report.

I filled it with Castrol Syntec 5W-20 which meets the Chrysler Spec. I will do a report on that with 7500 miles on that oil (takes me about 6 months) and probably one more if all looks good.

I was just curious about the factory oil. What really matters is how well the oil performs that you decide to go with and how many miles you want to put on it.

If you change your oil every 5K or less I wouldn't bother.

I won't do it for more than a few times. Or if I run into a problem or change oil I might spot check it.

It's not expensive and pretty easy to do.

Even though I target 7500 miles I may be busy or on vacation and need to wait on oil change and I might go a 1000 or so over. So I want to see some margin at 7500 miles.

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis Report on Factory Fill Oil 2014 Pentastar V6 with 6000 Mi

Many years ago did oil analysis with airplanes I owned. That's where I'm coming from on it.

Have never done it with cars, because, well, (you know)....

Thought about it this time.

I'm coming out of a Cherokee with 131K miles on it, and thought I just might try and push this one to 200K (influenced by the diesel). If so, then a regular oil analysis might be prudent.....

Thanks, mswlogo!

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis Report on Factory Fill Oil 2014 Pentastar V6 with 6000 Mi

Good to see the Moly is over twice the average amount which is common for the oem fill to help polish close contacts like piston rings. People that change their initial fill before 5000 miles are really doing themselves a disservice thinking old school, I see this so many times in post after post. The high copper is typically from bearing wear which should level out after the next change or two. Nice to see no fuel dilution, good piston ring seal. TBN is good, what percentage was your oil life gauge at when you changed at 6,000 miles? mine should hit 0% at 7,500 miles. Looks like Chryslers oil life algorithms are pretty good if my engine is preforming the same as yours.

It was heading for 10K.

Thanks for the info.

131K, that was just broken in. My 2002 4.0L GC had 227K and my service guy had 300K on his 4.0L. It's keeping the rest of the Jeep together that's usually the limiting factor

Yeah, mine was just a bit tired on the inside, but otherwise OK and doing great. 200K is a good number, and she'll have no trouble making it in someone else's hands.

I was just ready for some new technology...

Re: Blackstone Oil Analysis Report on Factory Fill Oil 2014 Pentastar V6 with 6000 Mi

Good info, thanks. I was planning on changing the oil around the 3,000 mile mark. Looks like I'll let it ride to 5,000-7,500, or whatever the computer tells me. Not being synthetic, I didn't think that was doable/wise, but looks like it's ok per the report.

I wonder if putting a magnet on the oil filter would help contain the metal and keep it from circulating.

Only the Iron and Nickel are magnetic and the filter will catch any particle that's big enough to cause any damage.

"George: Lots of metal turned up in this sample"

That's why I still change factory oil at 1000 miles. Probably nothing to worry about like Blackstone says, but I like to get it out of there. Just old school, I guess.
