Bow tie down points for securing a kayak

I am a new Jeep owner (about 12 days) and really enjoying the wealth of knowledge on this forum.

I have installed a Thule top rack system with Yakima's Bowdown kayak carrier. I am having trouble finding a spot to secure the bow tie down on my WK2. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

Thank you.

Lj, if you are a frequent boater, your best bet may be to install the tow hooks for bow tie downs. Below is a how to link.

I assume you are using the hitch for the stern straps?

There are 2 holes under the front, just past the removable air dam. My ratchet straps hook right into them.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will explore both options. And yes, I plan to use the receiver hooks for the stern tie down.

Re: Bow tie down points for securing a kayak

I use the front tow hooks for the bow tiedowns. Those rings are thick; I had to make an extra trip to the store and buy two of the largest size locking carabiner.

Re: Bow tie down points for securing a kayak

Whatever solution you use, be sure the ropes/straps get a little padding if they contact the front edge of the hood.
