Brake Controller Question?

Back in 05 my WK didn't come with a brake controller harness input under the dash. You had to splice into a couple wires under the drivers dash...

This was disappointing as the 05 Durango did have a harness input. Has Jeep designed the WK2 so that we only have to buy a harness to connect a brake controller? I hope so

Re: Brake Controller Question?

Bump...Someone’s got to know if the WK2 comes with the harness or is harness ready for a brake controller?
Thanks!

Re: Brake Controller Question?

Skiing, I scrounged around and couldn't confirm the actual harness connections either. There is the seven pin connector in Tow Group IV, and I believe most have the brake controller. The Hemi is rated for a 7,000 lb trailer, so it's gotta have the controller connections as most trailers at that size should have dualies and brakes.

Only suggestion is to try both Etrailer and Pacific Trailers, as we've had good success with both for boat trailer needs. Believe it or not, Etrailer already has 2011 JGC harnesses listed, hard to tell if these are simply universal or specific to the rig. Check out their self guided Q&A help section.

Re: Brake Controller Question?

You have to buy part# 68089300AA Rev:A. It plugs into the gray connector mounted on top of the main harness connector above the parking brake.

Re: Brake Controller Question?

Do we still need to run a +wire to the controller from battery?

Re: Brake Controller Question?

Ok, this is about the 4th thread on this.... There's no need to buy anything, if you have the Tow IV Package you should have gotten everything you need to wire up a controller. There's no addition "blue" wires to run, not adapters to buy. All you need to do is wire up the pigtail that came with your vehicle to the controller of your choice.

If the vehicle has the factory tow package then there's a 4 pin connector just above the large connected attached to the top of the parking brake pedal. That attaches to a pigtail harness that came with your vehicle in the glovebox. You wire that pigtail to the controller then mount the controller and plug in the cable to that connector above the brake pedal.

Here's the instructions that came with the cable in my glove box. If your windows sticker says Tow IV Package then you should have this pigtail.

NOTE: there's a typo on the instructions, I jotted down the correct wire color.

Re: Brake Controller Question?

True, you don't need this cable. You pay extra for the convenience the cable provides.

Understood but based on many comments I think a lot of people think it is required. Seems they never got the pigtail that I did in the glovebox. I'll bet there's a box at many dealerships with these sitting in them because the flunkies that prep the cars toss them..... Or, maybe Jeep didn't include them for a while, who knows.

Re: Brake Controller Question?

I sinatlled my Tekonsha P3 last weekend, would have liked to have had the connector at both ends for the GC but they wont be available for a few weeks apparently. I did notice that the wire colors dont match as others have stated. No big deal. I'll be towing my boat home this weekend, My Limited spring suspension towed it really well, now we will see how the Quard Lift does with a Weight dist hitch
