It's not always their fault. Electronic/computer related products and software programs are always going to run into obstacles, glitches, bugs and so on. It can be quite challenging to keep up with all of the changes and to maintain high compatibility rates across a wide range of peripherals. Chrysler is not alone- one can visit any brand automotive message board and find plenty of issues and quirks relating to audio/video/nav components.

MILOUS is correct....Because they never paid the sticker price of the $465....so $465 for a $1200 (dealer cost) for a 730N is one hell-of-a bargain.

Re: Brand New Here and Lost Already!

If they were only charged for the 430N and going to upgrade to the 730N,they should be a charge for the difference.

Not if she has it in writing that the dealer told her it would come in with the 730N. A deal is a deal, IF thats what the dealer sold her. Just by the fact that he is willing to but in a $1200 radio for $465 means he knows he may be on the hook.

From her fisrt post
"Was told that it would have the 730N, but it came with the 430N"

She was told (i.e. ordered) it would have the 730N, she just has to prove it. I hope she has something in wirting that shows what she ordered. IF you ordered the hemi and it came in with the v6 would you think that is OK?? IF you ordered black and it showed up white is that OK?? NO, then why is the radio OK. They agreed on a price for the config that was ordered and per her post it was with the 730N. The dealer (or Jeep) should replace it for free.

Agreed. The consumer electronics landscape continues to change rapidly and the pace will only quicken. That's why car companies have to get innovative in this area in order to keep up. Allowing consumers to update their own software would be a good step but only if they stay on top of bug patches and other required compatibility changes and push out updates on a regular basis which isn't happening most of the time. Ideally an OTA (over-the-air) update system should be implemented along with a quick and easy way for consumers to report problems to a central database direct from the vehicle thus saving potential hours of frustration trying to explain and replicate problems with untrained service personnel. Of course its not like consumer electronics manufacturers have got it down yet, but auto manufacturers are way behind.

Yes, that's what she was told, but what price did she pay? Did she pay a pre-agreed upon price based on what was originally offered or did she pay a price based on what was on the window sticker after the vehicle arrived at the dealership? If she paid a pre-agreed upon price based on what was promised then she should get the 730N at no charge. If she negotiated a price after the vehicle arrived at the dealership based on what features it really came with then she should expect to pay something for the upgrade.

I agree but I would hope she did not order a GC without knowing the price and then just wait and see what came on the car. What's the point of ordering?

Re: Brand New Here and Lost Already!

She said she ordered the 730N....that could have been the RER back then....and would you want that now? Probably not. The 430N RHB was substituted which is a newer Media Center system and charged less in the end.

If the dealer is only charging the upgrade cost...that is a TOTAL BARGAIN and what you would have paid anyway...DO IT...Milous it 10000% correct on this. It is a no brainer in my opinion and the dealer is kinda doing you a favor if you read the order terms...

Of course she ordered it without a firm price because that isn't final until the vehicle arrives. If you've ever seen the POC (Priced Order Confirmation) that the Chrysler system spits out it states in bold print, "Note: This is not an invoice. The prices and equipment shown on this priced order confirmation are tentative and subject to change or correction without prior notice. No claims against the content listed or prices quoted will be accepted. Refer to the vehicle invoice for final vehicle content and pricing. Orders are accepted only when the vehicle is shipped by the factory."

What it sounds like is the dealer looked on an outdated equipment sheet where it said the 730N (never any mention of the exact model code) was the "standard" media center for the Overland and that's what he told the customer when he took their order. That information was obsolete before it was even printed and if he paid attention to the weekly (sometimes daily) flashes that come in through the ordering system he would have known exactly what was going to be built based on the order date and the option packages selected. Almost from the very beginning the 730N (RER) was added as a $305 option which would point out to any intelligent observer that it was no longer "Standard". It wasn't until late January or Early February when the 730H (RHR) radio was added to the order sheet as an "OPTION" on the Overlands @ $465.

She didn't get shorted anything, she got exactly what she paid for (the MSRP was adjusted to reflect the 430N more than 6 months ago). The fact that the dealership is offering the upgrade is another goof on their part, one you should get in writing before they realize they will be out the difference between the $1200 or so dollars the RHR will cost them and the $465 they are charging you. They seem to honestly think you were owned the RHR based on an old spec sheet so they will be quite shocked when Chrysler rejects their warranty claim on the replacement radio.

Of course, if you actually checked the 730N radio on the option list or have that documented EXPLICITLY in the sales order it's moot, they owe you the 730N AT NOT CHARGE.

Thats what I am saying. If she has proof they need to make good at $0.
