Re: Break-in MPG?

Originally had a v6 3.7 2012 GC limited and MPG was pretty much as advertised. Even got a little better than 23 on the highway. City was a little beow 16 MPG. I live in western PA and lots of hills and winding roads so most vehicles don't get what is stated for city.
For other reasons I now have a 2013 v8 5.7 hemi and don't even get MPG advertised in either city or highway. City around 11-12 and one trip I made so far on highway was around 18-19 setting cruise at 70.
My question is, has anyone checked mileage using 87 octane vs 89 in the v8? The manual reccommends 89 but says you can use 87. I've been using 87 but am going to try 89 to see if it makes a difference. No mention was made by the dealer about using 89 when I bought it. Found out when I finally read the owners manual...lol

Re: Break-in MPG?

I have a 2012 overland hemi and get 20.9 mpg on the highway at 70 mph and 20.9 at 65 mph. It has 22000 miles on it. Around town I get approximately 15-17 mph.

Re: Break-in MPG?

That should be 20.6 mph at 70 mph.

Re: Break-in MPG?

That's surprisingly good. 2,000 miles in, I'm still averaging about 18.0mpg on the highway at 70mph and like 9 or 10 in city driving, but I live in Chicago and it's a lot of stop and go in the city. Maybe it will get better as it gets more miles on it. The highway mileage is definitely disappointing thus far..

Re: Break-in MPG?

I just picked up a 13' MG Summit with the 5.7 last weekend (thanks Pat from Fields) and with 200 miles it says I'm getting 10.5 in about 90% city of Chicago driving. Not what I was hoping, but am still hopeful that it gets better once I get some mileage on it and get it broken in. Still i have to say I am really liking this truck so far!

Re: Break-in MPG?

I average 16mpg, with about 50/50 driving. city is awful (it's a 5500lb SUV, with no start/stop etc, what do we expect). Highway is OK, but gets bad fast as speeds rise (it's a huge SUV, you can only cheat the air so much).

Disappointed in the mileage, learn some physics. bewildered that you can't get advertised mpg, read up on how they do the test.

Re: Break-in MPG?

I get an average of 11.5 MPG in my Jeep. It's all city though, rarely get over 35 mph and enjoy hearing the Hemi at WOT.

Re: Break-in MPG?

Hi All,
I average around 13ltrs/100 with a split of 50/50 of city and highway driving on the v8 hemi. Sorry, do not know what that is in mpg.... i have done around 52,000kms in it.

Re: Break-in MPG?

I have a '12 Laredo 2WD with the 3.6 Pentastar. I'm OK with my mileage so far, averaging about 16.5 - 17mpg city on the winter blend of gas. I averaged 23+ mpg on two long interstate trips last summer, mostly running at 80+ mph.
This is a BIG improvement over my '02 TJ Wrangler with the 4.0 and 31" tires....where I average 11-13 mpg overall. I think I might have hit 16+ MPG once in 10 years....going downhill with a strong tail wind .
I love having two Jeeps in my garage....the luxury road cruiser and the sporty convertible for sunny days!
