And doesn't that sound more like Jeep owners?

Google helped me figure it out...the ZF valvebody can be unstable and the servos oscillate under certain conditions. Also the LUC (Lockup Torque Converter) has a sophisticated torsional vibration dampener that has issues. The BMW and LandRover folks are having similar issues.

Chrysler could also use Google to locate some intelligent programmers to write better firmware for the TCM, no doubt.

Ok....back on topic...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Jeep joins Google's Open Automotive Alliance

I am really looking forward to both android auto and apple carplay. I think both of these solutions will go a long way in helping to keep peoples eyes off of their cell phones and on the road. While I have read that talking over a phone (or in this case TO your phone) can be very distracting I just have to think that doing it while your eyes are on the road has to beat sneakily texting on your cellphone in your lap. Google's voice recognition has been awesome when I use it and the more things I can reliably control via that the better in my opinion.

Greetings,

Just a followup to question a few days ago.

As I said in the 1st response, the advantage of the online map databases update the information continuously. I know that Waze and Google update as well, but I am not sure of their turnaround time. It could be dynamic or an hourly time period. Just recently, Apple has been updating the maps from TomTom every 24 hours as described in this article:

Apple updating its Maps with user corrections every day at 3 am Eastern

Best for now.

As a loyal Apple user, i'm a little disappointed but it is what it is.

I would have guessed that more Jeep Grand Cherokee owners use iOS than Android.
Android is the most used phone platform in the world, contrary to popular belief that more people use an iPhone.

and is still growing in marketshare everyday. You can't blame Chrysler for looking at the future.

Whoever said "most Androids aren't smartphones"....that is heresay. I've seen that repeated by paid Apple supporters numerous times. Tech writers do what they can to keep their stock investments high.

Android is the defacto definition of "a smartphone". Most app sellers say "available on Iphone and Smartphones"...what are they referring to? Virtually all Android based handsets sold in the last 5-6 years has been internet connected, app running smartphones. They all have data and voice if you pay for the services. Tablets are a different since most are WiFi only.

I'm glad to see Chrysler sign on. Its good news for a large number of users. They will most likely support Carplay as well.

So, regarding fragmentation, Google announced that they will be controlling the interfaces for Android Auto, TV, and Wear. As an aside, most devices are running modern (post 4.0) Android and thus the fragmentation arguments are largely overstated and old taking-points.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Jeep joins Google's Open Automotive Alliance

Greetings,

For those who want an aftermarket unit for the Google system, Alpine announced today in Japan, that in 2015 products will be available. Sometime this fall, CarPlay is due out by them first.

Best for now.

Back on topic, there is a great 6 min video in this article that gives a good idea of Android Auto running in an Audi A3.

Which won't be used to connect to the car. So unless they do the same for tablets and phones, it means very little.
