Re: Bringing Dogs along for trips
We have a 70 lb. Labrador Retreiver, who we take him on lots of trips (cottage, NY, etc.) The seats are folded down and he has a small foam bed to lie on.
He has a dog harness all the time - attached to one of the seat belts. He seems to enjoy (or not mind) the harness and knows this means we're goin' somewhere - with him!
I don't like to keep him in the back, with the seats up - unless necessary, as a rear-end collision will certainly injure him. The harness also keeps him in the vehicle, (do a search for dogs jumping out an open window to get to a squirrel or whatever), and keeps him from becoming a projectile in a panic stop or - collision.
I feel we're responsible for his safety and well being, and we use seat belts - so will our 9 yr old (puppy). It also helps to keep him in one place when going through the Canadian-US border - he likes to protect us from the guards......
