Re: Bringing Dogs along for trips

We have a 70 lb. Labrador Retreiver, who we take him on lots of trips (cottage, NY, etc.) The seats are folded down and he has a small foam bed to lie on.

He has a dog harness all the time - attached to one of the seat belts. He seems to enjoy (or not mind) the harness and knows this means we're goin' somewhere - with him!

I don't like to keep him in the back, with the seats up - unless necessary, as a rear-end collision will certainly injure him. The harness also keeps him in the vehicle, (do a search for dogs jumping out an open window to get to a squirrel or whatever), and keeps him from becoming a projectile in a panic stop or - collision.

I feel we're responsible for his safety and well being, and we use seat belts - so will our 9 yr old (puppy). It also helps to keep him in one place when going through the Canadian-US border - he likes to protect us from the guards......

+1 for Canvasback liners. My GF's Great Dane rides in the back with one, both or no seats down. The liner makes it so much easier to vacuum up the dog hair. Was almost impossible prior to having it in there. Stuck to the carpet like velcro!

Does anybody have any issues with the dogs scratching up the seats or doors?
