Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

Had a weird email survey from Jeep ... all about the built in vehicle flashlight. Seems like they are looking to eliminate it based on the questions. I like the idea of having the built in flashlight, just wish it was a lot brighter!

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

Have had the GC for over a year; never used the flashlight. Perhaps if it were mounted in a different spot like the front foot well, glove box or console I would. As it is I keep a small LED flashlight in the console.

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

I probably might use it more if it were brighter. As it is, the light provided by the overhead cargo door lights is more than the flashlight provides.

Honestly, the flashlight is only really good for pointing down into the spare tire well, where other light can't get to.

Since automakers would love to eliminate the spare tire too, that's not much incentive for them to keep it.

Having said that, a better system would be an overhead light in the cargo area that could be pulled out and used in a tent or whatever when out and about. If it had a little stand on the back to prop it up, it could shine light at your tire when changing it, too. Then it would be a dual purpose item, not something you'll forget is even there.

If it would have lowered the cost of the Jeep 3 or 4 bucks by not having it, I would rather not have it.

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

I was sent a Strategic Vision Survey, over 100 question and opinion area.

It didnt bring up the flashlight and to be truthful, didnt know it had one until I did some reading.

I did tell them to:

1) offer 392 Hemi as a stand alone option on the overland and summit trims
2) put a damn light under the hood, for 50k$ SUV should be able to look under the hood at night and in the winter!
3) Put a better paint job on the Jeep, paint is thin under the hood area and underneath the jeep is a disgrace, also paint the damn suspension, axles, and drive shafts!
4) maybe put some performance pages like the SRT gets for folks who opt for the hemi.
5) intergrate a good brake controller as option and have a screen for it on the Unconnect, eliminates the need for an aftermarket unit and smashing your knee on it.

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

The 1995-2001 BMW E38 chassis 7-Series had a portable flashlight in the glove-box that would recharge while you drove. It was basic, but useful.
I was hoping the LED light in the back of the JGC would be brighter, and better located (such as in the glove-box). Either way, I know I will use it, regardless of its location.

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

Yes, by today's standards, it's "sub standard" when it comes to light. But as a last resort...like when the batteries are dead on the half-dozen other flashlights in the vehicle. ... it comes in handy. LOL

When I found out I didn't have one, I put one in that was far better and more useful than anything that would have come with the Jeep by having light up top and down low:

Agreed.

Their painting changes haven't made for an acceptable luxury vehicle paint job as of yet.

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

I dont care one way or the other about the flash light. I had a 2012 Overland that I put 9,500 miles on and never used it once, and now I have a 2014 Summit and so far haven't used it either. I think its a good idea though I can see it coming in handy in some certain situations, I just havent come across that situation yet :-)

Re: Built In Vehicle Flashlight Survey

I always use my phone since it lights much better than Jeep's...

But, I d love to have it relocated somewhere near front seats instead of cargo area.
