"Salvage" may very well mean that vehicle was in a flood and that certainly can cause the kinds of electrical things you've been experiencing. If it was, in fact, under water, corrosion in "hidden places" could continue indefinitely.

It was the bracket holding the Amp behind the interior panel at the left rear was missing a nut. Pull out the storage bin and you will see it.

Re: Buy new or used GC?

I don't think I'd buy a GC used, but I did buy my Wrangler used. We're turning in our CR-V lease tomorrow at 43K miles and it ALMOST needs new tires, brakes, and we're probably not far from other major services that should be done after three years. I doubt the dealer will do it before he turns the car around. For all I know, it will end up at auction. Probably what happens to most two- or three-year-old vehicles, but I don't know.

Meanwhile, our 2014 GC was bought back by Chrylser as a lemon, and when I went to look at my owner center one day, I noticed it was still on there. It had been re-sold in upstate NY and had already been back to the dealer for a transmission issue. I don't think I'd buy a used one, especially a good-looking low-miles used one. Most of my used cars I've gone for one-owner, higher-mileage cars and have been good so far. Some of these Wranglers and GC's have been through two or three owners in a very small number of miles. I figure if someone has kept their Jeep for many miles, they've been happy with it and it's one of the "good" ones.
