Buy new or used GC?

I know the regular arguments for buying new vs used, but why did YOU buy yours the way you did? I'm looking at a new 2016 High Altitude, but in the back of my head I keep hearing the words "depreciation, depreciation, depr..."

I just thought I would solicit some feedback from fellow Jeep fans...

I purchased my 2022 18 months before the refresh in 2014.

I was pissed at myself at first. Wish I'd just waited.

I'm kinda glad i did now. I got a lot more options on my 2012 than I would have on a 2014.

Doing brakes, sparks plugs, tires and a few other things now.

Kinda pricey but will still be ahead of wait a couple years.

Good luck.

used will always be cheaper but consider how much cheaper sometimes the difference is not as much as you may think sometimes its a big difference making it worth it. many different factors here depending on your situation how long to keep it ect... But in my case mine was 55k sticker and I got it for 48k and now 3.5 years later its about 35k so 13k deprec. over 3.5 years not so bad. so I personally would take the new car and have 13k less in my pocket than buy some unknown 3.5 year old car and have 13k.

Typically a car is going to drop a good bit in the first two years and by buying a 2 year old car you don't take as big depreciation hit and still have a relatively new car buying used. but like I said above don't always assume that's a given with all the deep discounting off sticker that can go on with new cars sometimes new can be not all that far off from buying used and make more sense to just pay a bit more and grab the new.

Personally, I wouldn't pass up on that new 16 HA. Better get one while you still can.

Re: Buy new or used GC?

Ordered mine exactly the way I wanted it. The only way to go! I wanted the V8/QuadraDrive drive train without a sunroof which is impossible to find, so it had to be ordered.

I can tell you these Jeeps depreciate quickly. I bought a '15 HA on 3/22/16 and then checked what it would cost to get out of my lease and it was $13.5K under already.

Re: Buy new or used GC?

I had two 2014 SRTs in my driveway for a week.

1 was used, dealer demo for 4k miles, then 1 owner. 10k miles. Asking $60k
The other was brand new, leftover, $63k

An easy choice once I found french fries under the seat the used one.

Plus, you have to consider the cost of replacing brakes, tires, and all the wear and tear and abuse someone put on that vehicle before you.

Even my ignorant gf has told me based on the way I drive that she is glad we didn't buy used

Good job skipping the sunroof.

Re: Buy new or used GC?

I've only ever bought new cars since the first one I personally bought in 1979. While that might cost a little more and yes, there is that first mile depreciation, I'm not dealing with previous owner's habits and I can get exactly what I want. While some were off the lot (or at least somebody's lot in the case of a dealer trade) many were ordered to spec.

Whatever works for the individual.

And yea, if you want a '16 HA, don't wait...

Re: Buy new or used GC?

Got my 2013 end of February 2015. Got exactly what I wanted; 5.7 V8, 2 WD and the options that come with an Overland. Got the dealer to install Goodyear Forterra take-off for no additional cost.

Except for a tiny chip or two, the beautiful White paint was flawless. Nothing for me to do but have the oil and filter changed. It didn't need that but I wanted Pennzoil Ultra in the engine.

Re: Buy new or used GC?

Got my 2014 used. I knew exactly what I wanted and waited patiently until I found it. Mine was traded in from the original owner at a local Porsche dealership. Absolutely immaculate condition, the only thing I didn't understand is why the original owner installed a separate SiriusXM mount and plugged into Aux jack. I guess she didn't want to pay for a second device.
