Buy now or wait for 2012

Hey guys,
new here but lurking for some time and I wanted a few opinions since you all seem to be more active than any other forums I've been on recently

I'm interested in trading in my trusty 2001 4Runner on a new Limited or Overland WK2. I looked at the new 4Runner's the Xterra's and the Explorers before deciding that the ride quality and fit/finish of the Jeep is (I'm ashamed to say) just better overall than the others. I'm a loyal Toyota owner, my 1984 4Runner had 230k on it before i got my current one which has 120k and going strong.

I was just curious about everyone's opinions about buying now versus waiting until the 2012s come out.

Features i want are
Limited or Overland in Blackberry Pearl with beige interior, 5.7L Hemi with towing package, +/- on 4WD (I'm in Florida so not much use of it but I'm thinking it would be beneficial to help get my 5500# boat back up a launch ramp.), all the other options are hit or miss

Questions i had
1. Is the EQ issue in Japan still affecting the Blackberry pearl color and if so do we know an expected date to return to normal?
2. Will the new 6 speed tranny be that much of an improvement over the 5speed?
3. Are there any new changes that are for the better that are worth the extra 6 month wait?

Thanks

C

Re: Buy now or wait for 2012

Not sure about your last 2 questions, but according to my dealer, Blackberry Pearl has been discontinued. I don't know if this is actually correct, but when we picked our WK2 up our sales manager said we were lucky to get one of the last few they will have sold.

Re: Buy now or wait for 2012

2012 color info is detailed in another thread, but the Japan paint pigment enhancer factory is scheduled to be back up the beginning of June.
Correction: Resident insider expert Milous just stated in the 2012 thread that the color roster put out recently is only preliminary, with final colors to be known sometime this month.

The 8speed tranny will not be out until 2013 for the non-SRT correct?

I don't think you should wait now that you can get a Jeep relatively quickly. But you can't lose either way. Not much new for 2012 other than colors.

I'm waiting a year, two or 3 for the CRD model. Definitely looking forward to 22/32 mpg.

the 2012 5.7l has a 6 Speed transmission? If that is true, then i would wait. Just because i would hope that the shudder problem is solved with the 6 speed.

Well no one knows for certain I do not think but there is a lot of speculation going around that the WK2 will be getting a 6 speed.

I'm on the fence because I just found the perfect Blackberry Pearl Overland 4x4 Hemi here with a pretty reasonable price that I'm strongly considering

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, you guys are great and I may soon join the ranks of WK2 owner

Re: Buy now or wait for 2012

I could understand waiting from 2010 to 2011, by with such small upgrades coming in 2012, I would rather have the new truck now.

Re: Buy now or wait for 2012

Wait for the eleven speed transmission. Then when you go cruising and people brag about their 8 or 9 speed units, you can say "Well, mine goes to eleven."

Re: Buy now or wait for 2012

I'd say there is a good chance both the 6 speed and the CRD will arrive in 2012- question is whether it will be as a 2012 model or 2013 model.
