Buyback

I have just requested a buyback due to all the problems I have had or I should say the one problem I have had that they cannot fix. I was just wondering from anyone who has been through a buyback how the process works and how long it takes? I know they want you to buy another vehicle and I would be getting another Grand Cherokee so that is not a problem.

Re: Buyback

i assume you are talking about using the lemon law to get a new vwehicle?

you need to google your state name and lemon law and get the details for YOUR state as they are all different.

Re: Buyback

I think he's talking about a goodwill buyback rather than a Lemon Law case. The difference being Chrysler buys the vehicle back and gives you a credit towards the purchase of another WK2 vs. a Lemon Law case where it's a cash settlement with no obligation to repurchase a Jeep. I saw one thread on this New JCG, again!

Re: Buyback

It's not all that common but many times it's cheaper for Chrysler to take the vehicle back then try to fix it. It's also cheaper than a lemon law verdict because they are trading cars at cost, not retail. In addition, if it's a difficult problem the engineers may want a closer look to see if it's something they can correct with a running change or TSB.

Re: Buyback

I agree you need to know your states lemon law. In Michigan the law is online and easy to understand. I found that having a lawyer helped. The lawyer himself didn't help, just saying you're meeting with him helped. I think invoking the lemon law costs them a lot so they will try to avoid that, and suddenly did what they should have a month before. (not Chrysler)

Yeah that's me. I'm still running with dealer plates on the Overland as the paperwork hasn't come through from ISG, a third party that Chrysler handed my case of to for closure.
I did both; mailed in Wisconsin's Motor Vehicle Lemon Law Notice
http://www.dot.wi.gov/safety/consume...s/lemonlaw.htm
and opened a case and clearly stated the intent to Lemon or have them buyback with Chrysler Customer Care at 877-426-5337.

Re: Buyback

I did it with my BMW x5 that I bought in February... it was a lemon but I didn't need to take legal action... I just said I would talk to my lawyer if they didn't take the opportunity to resolve my issue. I wrote a letter detailing my issues with the X5 to the dealership management, CC'd everyone I could find at BMW. Then I asked for my money back or a comparable (or better) vehicle. Since they no longer had any like I had bought, I got a refund 5 days later.

Re: Buyback

I did it with my 96 Grand Caravan. Chrysler agreed to the buyback and I was charged so much for each mile driven ( I really can't remember how much it was at the time). They ordered me an exact same model and everyone was happy for it). I do remember that whatever the charge was per mile that it was reasonable. Good luck.

Re: Buyback

In Michigan you take the mileage when the problem first started divide by 100,000 and multiple by the cost of the car. So I had 4500 miles and ended up paying 4.5% of the cars value for use of the car.

How long did your process take and how did it go?

Re: Buyback

From the point when I mailed the lemon notice and called Chrysler Customer, it was a week before I was contacted by Chrysler and the dealer. Dealer let me know a buyback was approved. I got a call from ISG (or IGS) which is the third party that Chrylser is using to handle my case. I faxed in receipts for additions purchased (mats, tint, tow hooks, etc.) yesterday and was told it will take a few business days to process. This is the third week so far.
