Buying my first Grand Cherokee

First post....am in the process of finding my first used Jeep GC. Looking at a 2015 Overland with 31K miles. Also looking at a 2016 Limited with 6500 miles. Both are same price. Love the features of the Overland but the miles on the 2016 Limited are appealing. Looking for opinions on which way to lean. Thanks!

Welcome to the Garage

Do you tow? Which engines? What's the apples to apples comparison? Does the limited have the quadralift air ride? How will the vehicle be used? Do you off road? Daily driver?

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

I do not tow but use a hitch occasionally for a bike rack or cargo. Both have the v6 engine. Limited does not have the quadralift. Just the standard Limited package plus Nav with the 8.4 UConnect. Also has blindspot detection option. Vehicle will be used as a daily driver. No off roading

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

Either vehicle would fit your purposes perfectly. I guess it comes down to which one you like best. The 2016 V6 got a boost in power and I personally don't like the 2015 electronic shifter. I like the low miles on the 2016. I guess my vote is 2016 for the same price and improvements from the year model.

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

Thanks for your input. The electronic shift was strange the first time I test drove one of these but am now used to it. I like the low miles as well....but I also like the 20" wheels, panoramic sunroof, and upgraded stereo. 2015 Overland is red with black interior, 2016 Limited is red with light frost / beige.....

I'd get the 2015 Overland as it's much nicer inside and out and more on it. My parents have a Limited and I have an Overland.

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

I also bought used but only had two must haves. Four wheel drive low and the factory tow package. It also had to be from 2011-13 to keep me on my target budget. I didn't care which engine, what color, cloth or leather, any of that, just those two things plus my budget. I looked for six months in a 100 mile radius and just couldn't find a four wheel drive with factory tow. I finally found my 2011 Overland that checked off my two boxes and bought it. It was clean as a pin. I didn't need all those fancy doodads but I sure have enjoyed the extra features of the Overland. I feel like Richie Rich. lol. It spoiled me.

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

To me this is a no brainer. You should do more research. The 2016 engine and transmission was upgraded. Also the nav unit. I personally would not buy any year older than 2016 unless there was a big price break. Not saying a 15 is bad but for the same money i want the 2016 upgrades including the shifter.

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

Thanks again for the input. My financial side says go with low miles but my heart is saying go Overland. Another bonus to me is the Overland is at a Jeep dealer, the Limited was a trade for a Pathfinder and is at a Nissan dealer.

I know this may be another thread, but what are the feelings on the extended warranties? I am reading a lot about the Lifetime Maxcare. For either of these that would cost me another $3000 with a $200 deductible

Re: Buying my first Grand Cherokee

What were the upgrades for 2015 to 2016? I was aware of the shifter and a boost in HP. I did not know there was a transmission upgrade. Anything else?

Electric Pr Steering. No more fluid to leak or belt driven pump to rob power or gas mileage. Self parking option. Toyota has been using Electric pr Steering for quite a while.
