The Platinum pkg was a must have for me when shopping for my Summit, because I really do prefer the body colored door handles, mirrors, etc. However, my 2015 Summit V6 rig basically fell into my lap and I couldn't turn it down, and it doesn't have the Platinum pkg but I'm getting used to it.

I haven't seen many Summits around here at all, and only 1 or 2 with Platinum pkg. When I was looking on dealer lots 3 months ago and up to a year ago, I saw a ton of Summit Platinum pkg models. Many have since moved but for quite a while it's all I saw in the Summit trim around here.
I live in Concord but I work in the HVAC industry so I'm all over the bay area. We lucked out that the dealer in Walnut Creek had what we wanted. I was gonna wait for the MY16 but our current car died and its hard to say no to 0% APR, especially on the loan amount for the Summit. Loving it so far the adaptive cruise control is great in traffic.
Just did first oil change @ 980 miles. Glad I did there was lot of stuff in the bottom of my oil pan.

Interesting that you found what you wanted at Walnut Creek. That was one of the dealerships that never seemed to have any Summits in stock when I was looking, but that was 4 plus months ago.

I've only tried adaptive once while driving down 101 to Mountain View, and I was shocked how well it worked.

What interval are you going to follow for oil changes? Mine had 4,000 miles on it when I got it, but it was driven by the dealership owner's wife and was never titled so I got full warranty. They changed the oil when I took delivery and they slapped a window cling that says next oil change at 7,500. I definitely want them to do a couple of TSB flashes at the first service, primarily transmission, as I'm getting the 2-1 downshift clunk when stopping/starting quickly. I've also had the "key fob not detected" error and it scared the crap out of me because I thought I was going to be stranded, so I'm going to have them do that one too.

Do you have the V6? If so, what kind of mileage are you averaging? I'm only getting 14 to 15 on mostly in town but I don't mash it or drive in sport mode hardly ever; I'm a bit concerned about the low #'s so far.

The manufacturer's recommendation (unless you're driving for a taxi service or other certain "hard use" cases) is 10K miles. (MY14-15) The dealer is going to try and get your money at 3-4K just because they want your money...

I have a cousin that lives in Walnut Creek...very nice area!

Yep I did read that in the manual that they recommend 10K for oil change intervals. I'm just always curious if other owners follow that or if they do something else.

I believe the car is supposed to tell you when an oil change is recommended.

You will hear a lot of different answers on this. Some listen what the car says which is often 10k (depends on how you drive it) and other go earlier. I do mine twice a year at 6000-7000 miles which is a little early but can't hurt if you want to keep for the very long term. If I was leasing or changed cars every few years I'd do 10k without a thought

Local guy had his pix in newspaper for trading in a 2005 Buick with 433,000 miles, original engine and transmission. He said he wasn't a car guy... just did maintenance as in owner's manual.

I do have the v6 and we mostly drive freeway so I get about 20 mph. Sorry to hear about the downshift clunk. Mines good so far (knock wood). As for the oil change ill probably do another @ 5000 miles and then let it go for 7-8000 after that. Its funny how dealers still preach 3 months or 3000 miles. (But wouldn't you like to get paid twice as often)

Re: California Edition

Follow the recommended service interval. Any earlier and you are wasting time, money, and good oil.

I'm going to have my oil changed soon. Although I'm only at 4500 miles, I got the vehicle a year ago so I think it's time..

That's a good point, GC'. The "mileage" based interval is good for folks who put miles on to follow, but for low mileage drivers, there is a time interval in the manufacturer's schedule, too. (And, of course, the computer occasionally has other ideas) Folks should use the oil change schedule that fits their usage profile.

Re: California Edition

I'm the only Summit with Platinum that I've seen in my area. I see many many Overlanda and Summit's and quite a few SRT's too.
