Re: California Edition

Alrighty...

I think that I've figured out that what Im looking for is a Summit...with the Platinum/Cali package. (im not a chrome guy, I want a jeep, not a Lincoln)

I understand all of the prior posts on what the package does...body color here and there....brushed instead of sparkly here and there...

I think I can get reid of the brushed "platinum" stuff later and get closer to being blacked-out.

But, does the platinum/cali package do anything about the chrome trim ring around the windows?

If not, does Rugged Ridge or any of the after-market mod industry make black trim stuff to replace the bling?

Or....and I looking at calling Trojan to see if they can wrap my ride?

THX.

Nope the trim around the windows will still be regular non brushed chrome with the platinum package. Really the difference between the chrome and brushed chrome in the platinum and non platinum is pretty subtle and not very noticeable. What's nice about the platinum package is that it body matches the handles and mirrors which to me those chrome mirrors are the most obnoxious part of the non platinums. Also on the lighter colors like white the ground skirt being body color looks good, darker colors not as noticeable. When I bought mine the platinum package was not out or I probably would have got it even though $1000 for painted mirrors/handles and brushed chrome is rediculous

My Summit has the chrome and not the Platinum pkg....dang so I drive a Lincoln?? Ha just kidding but I really wanted the Platinum pkg as well to tone down all of the chrome trim that seems to be everywhere.

Regarding the window trim, the Platinum pkg still has it but I believe it's brushed instead of shiny chrome around the windows just like everywhere else.

Here's a pic of a white Summit I was looking at back in the summer before I bought my rig. All of the chrome trim is replaced with brushed everywhere, including the Jeep badging.

Re: California Edition

Awww now....dont get me wrong: I honestly think that the Shiny black and chrome look is VERY classy (hence the Lincoln reference). And I think that is very fitting for some (like my wife).

I, however, am not a classy kind of guy. I prefer Jeans over Armany. I prefer sweating on a ranch to sitting behind a desk. And I prefer monochrome over...not. Im not a rough-neck or anything that macho...I dont want a long-bed mega-cab with high-riser diesel stacks and 45" mud tires. Its Just a personal preference which, I fully understand is not something I have a right to attain. And no basis to bitch about its absence. But that doesnt keep me from wishing for it, especially at this price point.

I know its a car, and not burger king; I dont "get it my way". BUt I would like to be able to ask them to "hold the cheese".

What aggrivates me is that clearly, Jeep knows that there are apparently LOTS of chromophobes out here who arent fond of bling and want a more...basic appearance while keeping the refinement inside. Stealthy. This is evidenced by the simple fact that soooooooo much discussion exists on how to subtract the chrome and add the black...at almost any cost or complexity to do so.

And thus...Jeep responds by saying: We hear you. We will accommodate your desires...HALFWAY. We will let you have body colored door handles and mirrors....but that trim ring....its just gotsta be a bling-ring so that folks know you are riding in style. Oh...and all that other chrome stuff that some folks wanna get rid of...well...we hear them too. So we are gonna meet them HALFWAY too. We will make it....LESS chromey. But not all the way.

There...now you can have it....ALMOST your way. Now quit your bitching or we will make it some rose-gold color to match the center column or....if you really piss us off...we will give you wood panels on the OUTSIDE of the doors...again.

All I want is a super-duper High(er) altitude Summit. One color. Parts are already in inventory. I can walk around the lot and see vehicles that cost tens of thousands of dollars less...that look like what I want. But in order to get the gizmos and gadgets that I want.....I gotta give up the look that I want. Function over style.

When it would be sooooooo easy to have BOTH....at no extra cost or inconvenience to the manufacturer.

I know...horrible problem to ruin my life...too much chrome on a vehicle.

Lol.

The High Altitude is basically a blacked out Summit. The only difference is that it doesn't have the adaptive headlights and noise canceling.

The white platinum looks the business though. Very subtle elegance. The High Altitude is still elegant, but looks a little more aggressive.

Why Jeep didn't go all the way and do the window trim is a mystery. Probably some accountant figured they could save a bit of money.

I am going to get it wrapped on my HA at some point.

Hey you can complain about anything you want on this site lol its for enthusiasts everybody has their specific things, I bitch about no tow hooks on summit and holes in belly pans, others are obsessed with spending thousands on new exhaust so it sounds slightly different. That's what's nice if some doesn't like a thread they don't need to read it. Of course there are ass holes that feel the need to malign the subjects of threads they have no interest in.

So why not get the high altitude overland and then you get black chrome instead? It's more of a high altitude summit not an overland. The wheels on it are nasty though, reminds me of a black steel wheel with no hub cap from the 70s.

Re: California Edition

Cuz I want the Active Noise Cancellation.

ANC works wonders to reduce pilot fatigue in my aviation headsets. I figure it probably wouldnt hurt to have it for my 90minute ride to work.

And while I spend my 90 minute commute screaming down the toll-road at 80(ish) my wife spends hers sitting in city traffic...and she doesnt wanna listen to that.

Supposedly the Active Nose Cancellation make a 10db difference...which would be HUGE. Half that would be more realistic...and still worth it.

Active headlights...help me dodge the deer....maybe. I see about 4-6 fresh bodies along the side of the road every day. Each one of those represents about $3k in body work (not to mention the loss of life). If Adaptive headlights can help me stretch my luck just a little bit longer and avoid a deer....worth it.

I'd do a High Altitude in a heartbeat...if there was an uber-tech option to add the extra bells and whistles. I'd do the summit in a heart-beat...if there was a high(er)altitude option to reduce the chrome. My real real fantasy....I'd do SRT in a heart-beat....if it had the summit suspension...giving me all the looks and power that I want, and a suspension to be able to do something useful with it. 20% of my day doesnt involve asphalt.

So....no perfect solution. But the solution would be easy. LOL

The Platinum pkg was a must have for me when shopping for my Summit, because I really do prefer the body colored door handles, mirrors, etc. However, my 2015 Summit V6 rig basically fell into my lap and I couldn't turn it down, and it doesn't have the Platinum pkg but I'm getting used to it.

I haven't seen many Summits around here at all, and only 1 or 2 with Platinum pkg. When I was looking on dealer lots 3 months ago and up to a year ago, I saw a ton of Summit Platinum pkg models. Many have since moved but for quite a while it's all I saw in the Summit trim around here.
Cheers for Redwood City, CA! I'm here too! Need an off roading buddy...

I was choosing between the Cali Summit and HA. I decided the blacked out trim was worth giving up the ANC and adaptive headlights. With that said, I would have bought the summit had they offered the HA package on it.

The HA is extremely quiet at highway speeds. I can't imagine the ANC makes that big of a difference as I feel like I really don't hear much of any road noise now. It is a car, not a mausoleum. For the headlights, the beam on the overland is very wide and bright. Again, I can't imagine it would make a significant difference performance wise.

I thought I wanted them, but after seeing both cars, I felt the HA aesthetics spoke to me more. However, some days I still kind of lust after the Cali summit. A neighbor has one it is a nice looking vehicle.

Like you, I might have considered the SRT if it has the regular QL suspension.

Cannot go wrong with either choice though.

Maybe V8 summit and wrap your chrome easiest option

Agree...Summit with Platinum Edition Option and a little extra-curricular wrapping of those chrome strips would give all the bells and whistles as well as the non-sparkly look.

Re: California Edition

Yeah maybe just get a normal Summit and do the cosmetic things as you please. I have a 2014 white Summit V8 and I had the original granite lower skirts paint matched white similar to how the Platinum package comes and I love the look now. Still lots of chrome, but if I decide to change that, painted door handles and mirrors caps are easy to do. So is adding High Altitude "trivalent" dark chrome parts as well. The options really are endless.
Here is my 2014 V8 Summit with paint matched lower skirts (normally granite on standard Summit). There are a few things I don't like about the Platinum package such as the silver painted wheels. IMO they look very bland. The brushed parts look ok, but I actually prefer my setup as is over a Platinum package. Obviously just personal preference, they are all nice.
