Can power seat's cushion angle be mechanically modified?

My DW is 5'2" (and yes, eyes of blue) so her short legs sometimes present comfort challenges when sitting. For her, sitting in a GC seat is only marginally comfortable because the front edge of the seat cushion is up too high for her. Yes, even after using the power seat adjustment to get it as low as possible, it's too high to suit her. She says it cuts off the circulation in her legs... not a good thing, especially while driving.

Is there any mechanical adjustment possible underneath the seat to change this? Even I would prefer to have it a little lower at the front (I'm 5'8" btw). Any of you guys at Jefferson, or mechanically minded folks, have an idea?

BTW, the Cherokee's seat bothers her even worse.

Re: Can power seat's cushion angle be mechanically modified?

I am short too but I like the evaluation of the front part of the seat because it takes the pressure off of my back and my pinched nerve. But in any case I am wondering something? In the days before power seats I used to sit on a cushion so I could see up over the hood. If your wife was to place a small cushion on the back part of the seat would it even it out with the front and make it more comfortable for her? Might be worth a try.

Just a thought - could it be that her legs are too straight by having to reach for the pedals, hence adding pressure to the underside of her legs ?

Check that the steering wheel is telescoped further away from the seat (towards the dash). This may allow her to move the seat closer towards the pedals without having to straighten her legs to reach the pedals.

Re: Can power seat's cushion angle be mechanically modified?

She has the steering wheel all the way in already. Actually the problem exists when she is in the passenger seat, too, which shows that it isn't related to wheel/pedal position.

As for the supplemental cushion idea, maybe it would help, not sure... but in a $40,000 vehicle it should not be necessary to add cushions. The optimal solution is to change the seat cushion's basic angle some more... thus my question: is there any adjustment underneath for the entire seat assembly?

I don't know if this is still possible. I had an aunt with back problems. Every time she bought a new car, the dealer would put spacers in where the back of the seat was bolted to the floor. That would tip the entire seat forward including the seat back. But since the seat backs are adjustable, that shouldn't be a problem.

I haven't seen anyway to do that.

How do you feel about visiting an upholstery shop to have the foam cut and the leather tucked? We do stuff like that all the time in the motorcycle world.

Re: Can power seat's cushion angle be mechanically modified?

I have seen wedge type cushions that would appear to help reduce the angle at the seat edge as shown in the picture.

Have the seat foam removed, shaved and refitted by a good auto upholsterer. They might also have to reduce the size of the cover to avoid it being loose and crappy looking.

Given the access you guys in the US have to parts, perhaps you can get your hands on a seat foam at a dealership and check how much scope there is for height reduction?

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Can power seat's cushion angle be mechanically modified?

My wife says, "I wonder what the short people in the far east think of Jeep seats?" Because the people in China and Japan tend to be of smaller stature, does their Jeep come with different seats? Or is Jeep losing sales because they won't sell seats that are comfortable for shorter people?

One of our vehicles is an old 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, a truck that my wife loves and won't let me get rid of because the seats feel so good to her. That is her daily driver. But I wouldn't want to take that rattly old thing on a road trip across country.
