The Patrol isn't available in the US and if it was, it wouldn't be cheap. The new QX can't be compared to the old QX which was indeed an just overpriced Nissan. The new QX is based on the Patrol, which has legendary off-road capablity and is completely refined on-road. If the Patrol was available here I would buy it. The front end looks better.

The QX is quite an expensive set of wheels. Probably a little overpriced. Nevertheless, it's a nice ride though...

At $72K ($74K MSRP) fully loaded, I thought it was quite the bargain in its class. Not quite the bargain that the Summit is, but given its capabilities, features and interior quality, I didn't think it was overpriced at all. I did think the Cayenne S was overpriced even though it was also a sweet ride.

Forgot to add... my San Jose order was for a Black Summit with 730N RHR and pano sunroof.

Re: Cancelling Summit order.... Nor Cal

FYI. My order status has changed:

D1 status date: 03/11/2011
Current status: D1
Estimated delivery: 04/03/2011

I'm not sure if the dealer has already sold my order to someone else. Might be worth checking out for someone interested in ordering a black Summit w/ 730N RHR and pano sunroof.

Dealer is Stevens Creek in San Jose.

Re: Cancelling Summit order.... Nor Cal

Really, for a Summit, the questions are (since it comes with pano unless you do DVD):

(1) 4x4 vs. 4x2
(2) V8 vs V6
(3) RHR?
(4) Pano vs. DVD without pano
(5) Off-road group?
(6) Chrome edition group?

I take it your order was for a 4x4 V8 Summit in black with RHR no other options listing for $48,770?

1)4x4... of course. Who wants turn this great SUV into a grocery hauler.
2)V8... couldn't live with the V6 as a daily driver.
3)Already noted... 730N RHR
4)Pano
5)No off-road group... sell those wheels and do it after with more wheel choices was my plan.
6)No chrome edition... isn't there enough chrome on that Summit already?

Re: Cancelling Summit order.... Nor Cal

Nissan Patrol = Toyota Land Cruiser
Infiniti QX = Lexus LX

I really have to agree with that the QX has probably the nicest interior of any SUV on the market right now, it might not even be close. Maybe I'll look again and see if I can get over the exterior because otherwise I really like it and think you made a good choice.

The Nissan Patrol is rugged as hell too, thats why so many international relief organizations and the UN use them in some of the worlds toughest environments.

There is quite a bit of irony in canceling orders because your car wasn't built hastily enough.

Re: Cancelling Summit order.... Nor Cal

Just checked out the QX...very cool car...for some reason only the Caddy Escalade comes to mind when thinking about other SUV's that are truly in the QX class (meaning very large, but really more of a 'touring' SUV). The Caddy looks the SUV part and all, but isn't it really more intended for touring and more...pavement oriented activies? The Range Super Sport, IMHO, is still the only 'standard' on the market for true luxury touring but also wicked capability off road. The WK2 has Range capabilities for the most part, but for value (the price is great, but just not quite the Range...and for that they earned the hefty premium).

The QX may be somewhere in between? I mean, the WK2 is $50G's, the Range Super is $100G's, and the QX is $75G's. Smoooooove ride, nonetheless. It's funny, I was originally seduced by the WK2 due to exterior styling (just looks "muscular" for an SUV...and then the other pieces fell into place but I didn't over analyze the interior side of things). I can understand why you made the decision, I get it...way cool car, congrats!

Re: Cancelling Summit order.... Nor Cal

except drive train wise the QX has a locking diff and true 4wd with a low range...the escalade is an open diff AWD truck. Being based on a Nissan Patrol makes it a hell of a lot tougher than any Land Rover except perhaps the Defender as well.

I feel sorry for anyone who buys a Range Rover...the bones of that truck are 9 years old, and aside from changing the engine twice it hasn't really received any meaningful updates (putting some more trim on the doors and changing the gauges to an LCD screen do not make it a major refresh.) I still regret purchasing mine and that was nearly a decade ago.
