I also would prefer 4 screws, but would never let anybody drill into my brand new $40k+ vehicle just to install holes for 2 screws.

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

As we have no access to the rear of the front bumper for a nut / bolt set up I used thick gauged stainless self tappers just so there was a good "grab" to the thickness of the bumper. It's solid and no need for more holes.

I also used the same self tappers for the 2 on the rear.

Here are some pic's.....good opp to show off the ride also

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

I bolted the bottom plate holes to my stainless license plate frame with the plastic license fasteners you can get at any auto parts store. I then put a few clear rubber bumpers like you use to stop cupboard doors from banging(available at any hardware or home improvement store) and this solved my plate banging when you close the hatch. It would have been so much easier if MOPAR just provided 4 mounting points

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

Same issue on my '03 WJ. I was looking at some hardware that might do it. They sell rubber bumper pieces at Lowes, HQ, etc that have a screw hole in the back. Why not use of these screwed into the plate 1st, then mount the plate at the top? At least pressure would keep the plate/bumpers pressed against the vehicle, and prevent that horrid noise every time I close my rear hatch door...

But, I am open to other ideas right now...

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

I have narrow dealer name frames (NYS) around my plates as dealer requires them in order to buy gas at discount at dealership (brilliant plan!). I found some short (maybe 3/8 inch) wide headed bolts in my box of bolts and bolted plates to frame bottoms. Solves Sponge Bob's problem and yours, sort of!

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

I just got my license plate yesterday and I was supprised how it mounted to the rear lift gate. It was just secured to two screw holes into white plastic holds at the top and rubber bumpers towards the bottom of the mounting area kind of pushed up the bottom of the plate thus not letting it sit flush with the liftgate. When looking at one of the screen shots of the jeep in their android application's instruction on the liftgate buttons, they showed a black plastic license plate holder/brackt, does any of your guy's jeep have a rear license plate bracket?

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

sinjin, AAAA & tommc4 – thanks for the support and advice. Nice to know I was not the only one trying to solve this issue.
I wandered into Walmart over the weekend and found the plastic fasteners (screws and nuts) I think sinjin was referencing. For anyone interested, they were (obviously) in the automotive department with all the license plate frame stuff. They are made by Bell (the bicycle accessory company). There are 4 black plastic screws (appx ”) and nuts and 4 chrome plated plastic caps. I mounted the license plate to the bottom of the frame by inserting the screw in backwards (head towards the hatch) and installed the nut on the front. The heads of the screws are very thin and will not make contact with the hatch (the nuts would have hit the hatch). I then cut off the excess screw threads with a razor blade leaving a flush surface. My license plate frame is black so the nuts are practically invisible from a distance. The rattle is finally gone! The price - $1.99. I checked a local Advance Auto and they also carried the fasteners. The only difference was they wanted $2.99. Hope you find this useful.
I know Chrysler is trying to save a few bucks, but for the love of God, next time man-up and put the 4 nutserts in the hatch!

My idea was "better", yours is "best". Off I go to Walmart! (And to think that Paris Hilton thinks they just sell walls there!)
