^^^ That dealer prep on the license plates is beyond stupid. Seriously, what kind of dealership are they operating to do sloppy work like that.

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

So I'm opting to buy brackets from Lankinplates.com.au and drill new holes into the dimples on the front bumper to mount them. Which means I'll have 2x Kingpin plastic mount brackets for a reduced sale.
Other than just drilling a hole through the dimple is there anything else to watch out for or not do? T.I.A

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

Had the same problem on my Cherokee. Granted it is plastic where the plate is mounted, but I wanted 4 good looking screws holding the plate on. I used well nuts and they work well in sealing themselves. Originally got the idea when I added a roof rack to another car I had. Bought the rack from a dealer and it came with well nuts. These were used to mount the rack to the steel roof. Never had a problem with rust.

Just my $.02 worth.

Edit www.lakinplates.com.au not Lankin...arrived today and they do look the bomb. Very professional and should make the plates look solid.

Re: Can't have 4 screws for rear license plate??? Huh?

Returned the car to the dealership today to show the manger the holes and he agreed that they are an embarrassment to the company.
He asked what result I'd like to see and I replied a new tailgate. He said that would cost them around $8k and show tampering via the hinges not matching the covered paintwork.
His suggestion of course is to fill the holes and pro finish the paint to match which would give less signs of damage considering it's behind the plates.

I said I'll think about it and come back...some will say it's only metal where others will say it detracts the resale. Maybe if it's done properly it'll look like nothing is wrong and if they chuck in a towbar, they'll still save $7k?
Not sure what to do given it's the first new car I've ever owned.

^^^ Don't worry, they can fix it. I wouldn't be happy either but have them repair it and throw in a a bunch of oil changes for free.

Suppose you're right, especially if they chuck in a towbar Other than this it runs like a dream, doing avg 8ltr/100km. So will just remember for next upgrade for them not to fix plates.
