Can't make up my mind!

Hey guys, new to the forum and Jeep! I've been shopping around now for a couple weeks to find a 2014 Jeep GC Limited. I've been looking around and the used cars are going for about 32k. Where as I can probably get a new one for ~38k A few thousand differences. I'm trying to see if its worth it or not. The payument per month does seem to be cheaper about 100$! But is it worth the risk i guess? ANy suggestions on looking at used? These are more then likely lease returns.

Thanks guys and i hope to join the family soon!

Re: Can't make up my mind!

I went CPO and saved about 7000 on my Laredo. I then purchased the lifetime/unlimited mileage warranty since I drive a lot for work. I guess it depends on how much you drive and if new is important to you. I've never bought a car brand new..I prefer some mileage and savings.

Are you sure they are lease returns? I would think you have a high change of getting rentals or trade-ins due to issues with the jeep.

I'd be surprised if a 2014 GC would be a lease return.
Although the new 2015 ones don't seem to be gathering a lot of dust, it wouldn't hurt to get prices on a few though, and ask the sales types why you would want to spend significantly more money on a new one, in case that could get a bit of a drop in price.

... knowing that the instant you drive a new one away, it just dropped a few K due to being "used"

If you go used, CarFax helps, but can be incomplete, and definitely consider the maxcare warranties as these things can cost a lot of pennies to repair.

Re: Can't make up my mind!

Appreciate the replies guys.

Yea I carfax each one and it list out what type of sale it was. I've seen renters and others as well. I'm considering New, but seems the best bet i might find is around 37k with destination fees unless i'm wrong and people have walked away with better. I am using Truecar discount service that my job provides and thats the deal its showing me. Even at times i've seen dealers not wanted to meet those numbers but maybe i'm not working with the right ones

Not sure if anyone here would know as well, but would a dealer be willing to show a service history on the car even if the car wasnt originally from their dealership? Would definitely make me more comfortable knowing the history of the car as Carfax seems to limit the details it has on service history

I wanted a Diesel with off road adventurer II package - but couldn't locate a used one. We keep cars "forever" - our 15 JGC Overland replaces a 95 Isuzu Rodeo.

I never knew that certified pre-owned Jeeps were eligible for lifetime maxcare! That is nice to know.

I would get new especially if you drive a lot. I'm leasing mine with 15K miles and I'm already 5K over my miles. Not saying leasing is better or anything but if you do drive a lot a new car is better because the older car will have more wear and tear. You can probably get a better price. I would use consumer reports, thats what i used to get mine and I got a good lease on it.

Re: Can't make up my mind!

I was in the exact same boat as you wanting to look for CPO 2014 because I didn't like the look of previous years. What I found real quick was that they were all rentals or lemon law buy backs. If you want a lease return you'll probably have to wait another year or look at 2013 or older.

I'd be surprised that "certified" is a requirement, either...if the original in-service date is within the time frame and the vehicle mileage is under a particular number, I suspect you can purchase the MaxCare Extended Service Contract on a used JGC if you plunk down your money. I've seen folks that have done it on the boards...sometimes right before a big service is required. There is a small surcharge for over 12 mos and over 12K miles (and maybe other points), but...it can be a good deal if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time. But as always...the "fine print" rules on eligibility.

Re: Can't make up my mind!

Mine had 4000 miles when I bought it last November. I purchased a Max Care service contract and because my MY14 Limited was less than a year old and under 12.000 miles I got the new car price on my extended warranty/service contract. It stickered for over $45.000.00 I paid $36.000 for it. I would purchase the Max Care plan if you plan on keeping it past the original 3/36000 mi coverage. Good luck.
