Re: Capless Gas Tank Stories

For these makeshift caps to stay on, they are going to have to be somewhat diameter critical. If you guys find a cap that works, be it from a spray paint can, or insect spray, if you could be both brand and type specific in your description, it would be very helpful. I want to get something to keep dust and moisture out. This can't be a good thing. My God, $50K for a vehicle, and we've got to scrounge on forums to find a half a$$ed gas cap??

Re: Capless Gas Tank Stories

The problem I'm finding with shopping for these things on line are 2 fold. 1), You can't "try them" to see how they fit. And 2), they are a high volume, production item. In many cases, (like the example below), 2 dozen are cheaper than 1. (Just what I need, 24 gas caps.)

I don't know any stores that stock a good variety of these type of things. I've already checked out my local Home Depot trying to find something similar for another application, (an old, outdated rifle scope), and they had nothing that I could make work. This isn't rocket science, it's just a giant pain in the a$$. The engineer at Jeep that came up with this abortion should be sent to Syria.

Re: Capless Gas Tank Stories

Yet another question. Do all the available engines, (2014-2015), have the same diameter filler neck size? (3.0 Diesel, V-6 Penstar, 5.7 HEMI V-8)?

Re: Capless Gas Tank Stories

To OP you should never "top off" any vehicle.
Google it.

Capless Gas Tank Stories

I'll let you know when I finally put gas in mine. 19,000 and I haven't filler her up yet! I live in Oregon and we can't pump our own gas. The guys at Costco don't seem to have any problem though.

Re: Capless Gas Tank Stories

The only issues I've had is at some gas stations the pump will shut off prematurely, it seems to think the tank is full (and I know it's not true). On two occasions I had to stand there and manually pump because even when pumped by hand, the pump would shut off every 5 seconds, no matter what angle I tried. Very frustrating. Does not happen at every station though.

I'm looking at this whole thing as a solution to a non existent problem. What's the upside? I've never forgotten to put a gas cap on in my life.
I'm surprised you are able to leave your home.

I never gave it much thought until our friends in Oz started posting concerns about the amount of water and dirt that gets by the fuel door gasket.

I've been using the cap off a large can of wasp spray for well over a year now. It fits perfectly, it's snug, it doesn't vibrate loose and it's withstood all of the temperature extremes of summer and winter here in WI. It even has the Good Housekeeping seal of approval on it.

It's about as cheap a "fix" as you can find and not worth over analyzing or stressing over. No one sees it and if they did they most likely couldn't care less. If it would ever crack or otherwise stop working properly I'll simply replace it with another one.

What are you fixing? What's broken? Sounds like a warranty issue not a wasp spray cap issue to me.
